National Mental Health Nurses Day was recognized on 2/21, and while this post comes a few days later, our gratitude is ongoing and well-deserved.

Today, we want to recognize and celebrate our incredible mental health nursing staff across programs in Medication Management, Assertive Community Treatment, and Tailored Care Management. Your clinical expertise, compassion, and consistency are foundational to the care we provide and to the trust our clients place in our teams.

You are essential members of your teams and SPARC Services and Programs, bringing both leadership and steady presence to complex clinical moments. You meet people where they are with skill, dignity, and humanity, and your impact is felt not only in outcomes, but in the relationships you build every day.

Your work is deeply valued, seen, and appreciated. Thank you for everything you do, every day

Our NC Central Piedmont FCT Team Supervisor, Shayonna Branch, recently led the team on a fun and meaningful outing in Raliegh, NC that blended connection with learning. The day included going out to eat, a visit to the science museum, and a scavenger hunt, which thoughtfully incorporating training themes around community-based interventions and cultural competency.

TCM is a service where a Care Manager can help an individual meet their health goals by coordinating medical, social and behavioral health services and by assisting in finding and accessing resources like transportation, healthy food and safe housing.

A Care Manager is a specially trained health care worker who works with the client and all health care providers, including doctors, to make sure clients get the right care when and where they need it. The Care Manager knows what resources are available in the community and will work with local providers.

The Care Manager can:
β€’ Ensure clients have access to the physical health, pharmacy, behavioral health, and social resources you need to live their best life
β€’ Help arrange appointments and transportation to and from the doctor
β€’ Support clients in reaching their goals to better manage their ongoing health conditions
β€’ Answer questions about what their medicines do and how to take them
β€’ Follow up with client’s doctors or specialists about their care
β€’ Connect clients to helpful resources in your community
β€’ Help clients continue to receive the care they need if you switch health plans or doctors

Our Sr. VP of Operations, Helen Austin, recently shared a powerful reminder about the true impact of peer support πŸ’™

"We intentionally sought to integrate Peer Support Specialists into our teams because we believe recovery is most powerful when it is shared. Peer support is not just a service model to us β€” it is a philosophy rooted in hope, lived experience, and authentic connection.

We value the dual benefit of employing individuals with lived experience: it creates meaningful career pathways for people in recovery while simultaneously strengthening outcomes for the individuals we serve. Peers bring credibility and relatability that cannot be taught. They connect with individuals not from a place of theory, but from a place of β€œI’ve been there.” That shared understanding builds trust, reduces stigma, and opens doors that might otherwise remain closed.

We appreciate how Peer Support Specialists are uniquely positioned to be both empathetic and empowering. They model resilience, demonstrate that change is possible, and help others envision a fuller, self-directed life. Their presence reinforces that recovery is real, sustainable, and attainable β€” because they are living proof of it."

Today is Random Acts of Kindness day:

πŸ’™ Random Acts of Kindness Day
We often hear stories about random acts of kindness that saved someone’s life or was a piviotal moment that changed the trajectory of their lives.
A stranger who checked in.
A moment of being seen.
A small act that came at exactly the right time.
At SPARC Services and Programs, we know that for individuals and families navigating mental health challenges, those moments matter. Kindness can interrupt isolation, restore hope, and remind someone they are not alone.
We also know that engaging in acts of kindness can in turn reduce stress, increase happy hormones and spread more kindness.
Today is a reminder that even the smallest, most unexpected act of kindness can have a profound impact sometimes more than we will ever know.
