Today for Teammate Tuesday we have Janeece Freeman who is one of our Certified Medical Assistants.
Janeece shared "I chose to be in healthcare because there is always a need for medical assistance. I originally wanted to be in the dental field, but I couldn't pass the chemistry classes. I went to a community college in Maryland to take some dental assisting classes but then moved to North Carolina in 2007. I decided to go to Randolph Community College and Guilford Tech to finally get a degree in something, even if it wasn't dental related. I was told that being an assistant can land you in a specialty that you would love, hence this is my tenth year as a Certified Phlebotomist, Certified EKG Technician, and Registered Medical Assistant. Going back to the beginning, I've worked 3 months in gastroenterology, 9 years in dermatology, urgent care on the weekends, and PRN in cardiology. My immediate family called me "nurse Neece" growing up because I'd assist with anything medical, hoping I'd learn something from it."
What Janeece likes about working at NHBSC is getting to know her patients which she is able to do by speaking with them when she is rooming them for the provider. She has also enjoyed getting to learn another specialty that she can add to her list of experiences.
On a personal note, in her free time, she likes to paint, sleep, read, listen to music, spend time with family, binge watch Netflix and do anything that involves horses. Her first job was at a place called Ledo's Pizza as a waitress. She also worked for the Federal Department of Transportation at the same time. Her favorite restaurant in Charlotte is Firebirds, "I love the candied bacon." Her personal and professional achievements that she is the most proud of is her three children. "I'm proud of my medical credentials and education. I raised my 3 kids as a single mom and student, and it showed them my dedication. I even graduated with honors." Her favorite place to travel is Gordonsville, VA where the Shenandoah Valley has an equestrian center. Lastly, if she had a superpower, it would be to read minds.
