💙 Patient Spotlight: Rediscovering the Joy of Hearing 💙

When Maria first came to Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center, she knew something was not quite right. She was struggling to hear, and her family noticed it too. Looking for answers and support, Maria decided to schedule a hearing screening at CSHC, hopeful that this step might lead to meaningful change.

From the very beginning, the experience felt personal and supportive. With guidance from our CSHC Audiology team, Maria gained a clear understanding of her hearing needs and the options available to her. Together, they explored resources that made hearing care affordable.

With hearing aids in place, everything shifted. Sounds Maria had forgotten came rushing back. Birds chirping. The subtle details of everyday life. What once felt frustrating and complicated began to feel manageable again.

When reflecting on her journey, Maria shared:
“I could hear so much of what I had forgotten I could. Hearing the birds chirping again is something I will never forget.”

April is recognized as Autism Acceptance Month, a time dedicated to fostering inclusion, support, and understanding for neurodivergent individuals. This month emphasizes celebrating the diversity, individuality, and lived experiences of autistic people within our communities.

At Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center, our speech-language pathologists and audiologists are honored to serve many individuals on the autism spectrum. We are proud to celebrate their diversity and to support each person’s communication journey—because empowering communication truly transforms lives.

Hearing loss rarely announces itself.

It does not arrive loudly or all at once. Instead, it shows up quietly, in moments where conversations feel tiring, where group settings feel overwhelming, or where you begin to withdraw without realizing why.
