Maycember, Mental Load, and What We Don’t Say
May is full—school events, deadlines, travel, all of it.
Does this sound familiar?
You notice everything that needs to get done…but don’t say it out loud.
You hope your partner will step in.
When they don’t, frustration builds.
The truth? Even great partners aren’t mind readers.
3 Small Shifts to Try This Week:
1. Say the quiet part out loud (and gently).
“I’m feeling overwhelmed keeping track of all the things happening this month. Can we look at it together?”
2. Be specific, not global.
Instead of “I do EVERYTHING!” try
“Can you please take the lead on the school events this week?”
3. Aim for pitching in together, not perfection.
The goal isn’t to get it exactly right or 50/50—it’s feeling like you’re in it together. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just a start.
Teamwork is the Goal
Do you identify with this? You really want to help, but don’t know exactly what to do…you may have heard your partner say they don’t want to keep reminding or when you ask, you risk your partner getting frustrated.
So what do you do? Here are a few ideas to get you started:
📅 Check the shared calendar (if you don't have one shared, suggest that you make one so you can proactively look and know what is happening for the week, reducing the amount of "What's next?")
🛒 Pick something up at the store that you regularly need or run out of (Hint: 🍌) and say, "I'm running to the store, is there anything I can grab for you while I'm there or do you have a list you can share?"
👋 Notice your partner's stress and say, “I can see you are doing a lot. I'd like to help.”
If talking about this feels harder than it should—or turns into frustration—we can help you get on the same page and move through this season as a team. Contact us (https://connectcouplestherapy.com/contact/) .

Couples in Recovery - Virtual
Recovery doesn’t end with sobriety; it often brings relationship patterns into sharper focus. We’re offering a Relationships in Recovery workshop designed for couples where one or both partners are at least 6 months post-treatment.
This workshop is ideal for couples who are working their sobriety but noticing that trust, communication, or old dynamics still need care and attention. In a small, supportive setting, couples will learn practical, research-based tools to strengthen connection, navigate conflict more effectively, and support both recovery and the relationship moving forward.
Next Date:
📅 Saturday, June 13 | 12–6pm
Led by Brittany Bolden (https://connectcouplestherapy.com/brittany-bolden-pcd/) , LMFT, LCAS, Certified S*x Therapist, who brings specialized expertise in addiction recovery, relational healing, and intimacy - making this workshop especially well-suited for couples rebuilding their relationship after treatment.
