Adult bodies consist of 60% water, and this number can go up to 78% in young babies. The body loses water throughout the day through urine, sweat and breathing. As a result, dehydration can lead to many health issues, including headaches, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, constipation, urinary tract infections and muscle cramps. As the weather gets warmer, staying hydrated and replacing all the water we lose is essential.

Typically, it is recommended that adults and teenagers drink about eight glasses of water per day (8 glasses of 8oz each = 64 oz per day, or just over 2 liters). Smaller children and some people may need less, while some grown-ups may need even more. Some people may not be able to recognize or communicate if they are parched.

Review these answers to commonly asked questions about keeping your child hydrated and always contact your child's pediatrician with any questions or concerns.

Putting together a meal or snack that’s tasty and has variety can sometimes feel overwhelming. How do you pull something together that’s going to be pleasing to your taste buds, give you energy for right now, give you nutrients that your body needs, and keep you feeling full until the next time you eat? It actually doesn’t need to be complicated if you use a simple framework: For each meal or snack, aim to include a source of carbohydrate, protein, fiber, and fat.

When each of these is present, your meal or snack will have a mixture of flavors, textures, nutrients, and energy sources that will leave you feeling satisfied. Each part of this meal and snack structure does something different for our bodies.

See post for more information and always contact your pediatrician with any questions or concerns regarding your child's nutrition.

Rotavirus is a virus that infects the lining of the intestines. Although not typically known by its name, most parents recognize rotavirus by its symptoms — high fever, persistent and severe vomiting, and diarrhea. By 5 years of age nearly all children have been infected with rotavirus.

To be able to identify a reading problem in their child, parents need to have a sense of the milestones of early literacy. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s literacy development, talk with your child’s doctor, teacher, or a speech and language specialist. The sooner your child gets the help they need, the easier it will be for your child to learn.

Think putting on sunscreen once in the morning will be enough? Think again. Sweat, sand,
towels, clothes, or a dunk in the pool or ocean can cause sunscreen to rub off. Avoid this by
setting a reminder on your phone to reapply and maintain your level of protection.
