How is Yin Yoga different from other types of yoga

Yin yoga consists of floor postures(stretches) with long holds to allow for the safe and appropriate expansion of the connective tissues( fascia) in the body. The focus of this practice is to allow the nervous system time to unwind from the stress response and to allow the body to relax. Nice long holds in the stretches allows the connective tissues, ligaments and tendons time to safely expand creating space in the joints that improves freedom of movement and clears energy blockages in the energy highways( meridians) of the body.

Yin Yoga is practiced in a normal temperature room. In order to get into the connective tissues the muscles must remain cool, this prevents the muscles from doing the stretching and allows the connective tissues to slowly and safely expand.

This practice is often called a practice of stillness which allows you to pay attention to the valuable feedback from your body.

This practice complements all forms of exercise including running, weight lifting, spin classes, golf, tennis, and vigorous forms of yoga. Ideal for healing injuries and for individuals recovering from surgery once released for physical activity from their Doctor.
