To fully evaluate your venous system, an ultrasound of the leg veins is nearly always needed. The exception is if your vein problem is only cosmetic in nature. Also insurance companies require it to establish medical necessity.
We are very grateful to have become a busy practice. Through the years, we have found it is most efficient to schedule ultrasounds and physician visits independently. We request that you schedule your ultrasound prior to your first visit with the doctor. A review of your medical history, photos, and compression garment measurements may be taken at this preliminary visit as well. This allows your doctor to have as much information as possible to create the most accurate plan of care specifically for you. We have found this to reduce patient waiting times for appointments.
If you prefer a visit with the doctor first, we will be happy to accommodate you. If the doctor determines an ultrasound is needed, it may have to be on a separate day, and the visit to review it with the doctor at a separate time that day or on yet another day.
