๐Ÿ’ญIt's Wellness Wednesday!๐Ÿ’ญ

Hair changes are one of the most visible and emotional side effects of chemotherapy โ€” and everyone responds differently. In this article, experts from Novant Health Cancer Institute break down why hair loss happens, how it can vary from person to person, what options might help, and what to expect during and after treatment

๐Ÿ‘‰ Whether youโ€™re preparing for treatment yourself or supporting a loved one, this guide offers reassurance, practical information, and a reminder that hair loss is often temporary.

Chemotherapy is a double-edged sword. It can help save someoneโ€™s life โ€“ but it has some unpleasant and unwelcome side effects. One that many people dread is hair loss. We talked to an oncologist about how her patients handle it and how she prepares them for it.

Motivation Monday โœจ

โ€œThe hardest battles turn you into someone stronger than you ever imagined you could be.โ€

If youโ€™re in the middle of cancer treatment, this journey may feel heavy, exhausting, and unfair. Even so, every appointment you attend, every hard day you get through, and every moment you keep going is proof of a strength you may not even recognize yet.

Be gentle with yourself today. Strength doesnโ€™t always look like pushing forward โ€” sometimes it looks like resting, asking for help, and taking things one step at a time. You are stronger than you know, and youโ€™re not alone. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿ’™ Cervical Cancer Awareness Month ๐Ÿ’™

Most cases of cervical cancer are preventable. The HPV vaccine and regular Pap and HPV tests play a powerful role in preventionโ€”especially since many women have no symptoms.

Possible symptoms may include:
โ€ข Bleeding after in*******se or between periods
โ€ข Excessive discharge or vaginal odor
โ€ข Pain

Know your risk: Nearly all cervical cancer is caused by HPV. Smoking and a weakened immune system can increase risk.

Take action:
โœ”๏ธ Stay up to date on Pap and HPV tests
โœ”๏ธ Get the HPV vaccine (recommended for ages 9โ€“26; available up to age 45)
โœ”๏ธ Encourage vaccination for cancer prevention

Awareness, prevention, and early detection save lives. ๐Ÿ’™

Helping you and your family cope with cancer

When you come to our Novant Health Buddy Kemp Cancer Support Center, youโ€™re entering a space designed to help you and your family in the time following a diagnosis. The center is in a comfortable, home-like setting close to the Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center campus, near uptown Charlotte. At the center you'll find special programs and support, as well as services that aim to help you look and feel your best. For example, the Lending Boutique is filled with wigs for women who are beginning treatment. Services are provided by a team of counselors and case managers who are specially trained to treat cancer; they provide individual and family counseling, support groups and special events, educational programs, financial resource guidance, a resource library, and a lending boutique with beautiful wigs for cancer patients who have lost their hair due to chemo treatments.
