In Canada and the U.S., the chest clip isn’t part of the five‑point harness. It’s a pre‑crash positioner, that should be armpit level on the child.
Its whole job is simple:
➡️ keep the harness straps the correct distance apart
➡️ help the straps stay on the child’s shoulders before a crash
And here’s the part that surprises people:
🌍 Other countries don’t use chest clips at all.
Not because it’s unsafe, but because their seats are designed differently to do the same job without one.
So if you travel or see seats online without a chest clip, don’t panic. It’s not wrong. It’s not unsafe. It’s just a different engineering solution.
