Last Tuesday our first-year and second-year students faced off in a friendly (but competitive) game of flag football. While both classes showed off their athleticism, the real stars of the game were the amazing children from Kinetic Kids, who wowed us all with an unforgettable halftime performance.

It was an afternoon of inspiration — a great reminder of the community we're proud to be a part of!

This amazing group of first and second years (pictured left to right: Gabe Janus, Alex Braswell, Jalil Farrell, Emily Wiesner, Hannah Kozak, Rilee Crayton, and Regan Crozier) took time out of their past weekend to provide pro bono care to those who need it most. It was a day filled with laughs, mentorship, and great patient care.

Thank you for all that you do!

We are proud of our alumni Dr. Eli Greear (Class 2021), who along with their co-worker, Max Swider, from Carolina Rehabilitation Northeast, organized the 2025 Ride and Stride this past weekend.

The 2025 Ride and Stride is a 1-mile walk or wheelchair ride created specifically for individuals with limb loss or limb difference. This inspiring event was all about promoting outdoor functional mobility while connecting participants with peer mentors and support in their community.

We are also proud of our faculty member Dr. Dave Hysell who was accompanied by a combination of first-, second-, and third-year students to volunteer and provide support for the event and its participants.

Thank you to all, and a special shout out to Dr. Eli Greear, for helping coordinate this event and for continuing to make an impact.

The 2025 elective trip to South Dakota was a powerful and memorable experience for all involved. Faculty members Drs. Mary Swiggum and Dr. Polk, alumni Dr. Jarrett Allen, together with three third-year students (Luke Bricken, Caitlyn Crawford, and Sarah Western), spent a meaningful week serving on the Rosebud Reservation, even as frequent rain threatened to derail plans.

Despite the weather, the team supported five therapeutic riding sessions for Native children with disabilities and spent a full day with the school system’s physical therapist, visiting local schools and meeting students. Their efforts also helped lay the foundation for future collaboration between school-based therapy services and the horse ranch.

Beyond their clinical work, the group embraced the opportunity to learn from and connect with Lakota culture. They hiked through the Badlands and Black Hills, undeterred by rain, hail, and 50 mph winds, and visited landmarks such as Crazy Horse. On their final morning, the group woke to a blanket of fresh snow, one last surprise in a week full of unforgettable moments.

This immersive experience left a lasting impact on the faculty, students, and those they served.
