Protect your oral health, and know what to watch for.

➡️ Check these areas for warning signs:
- Lips – sores, bumps, or unusual patches
- Inside cheeks (labial & buccal mucosa) – red/white patches, ulcers
- Gums & vestibule – swelling, irritation, or bleeding
- Tongue (top, sides, underside) – lumps, color changes, or sores
- Floor of mouth – sores, thickened areas, or discomfort
- Palate (hard & soft) – unusual patches or pain
- Back of throat & lymph nodes – persistent soreness, swelling, or lumps

➡️ If left untreated, some changes may lead to:
- Gum, mouth, or oral cancer
- Infection or abscess formation
- Tissue damage or bone loss
- Difficulty eating, speaking, or maintaining oral hygiene
- Spread of disease to nearby tissues or lymph nodes
- Need for more extensive surgery later

Spotting changes early with regular check-ups and self-monitoring helps protect your health.

April 🗓️ is Oral Cancer Awareness Month: Why does oral pathology matter?

Changes in your mouth, such as sores that don’t heal, unusual lumps, or ongoing discomfort, can be early warning signs of more serious conditions, including oral cancer.

Oral surgeons are uniquely trained to evaluate these findings, determine the cause, and intervene early to protect your overall health.

❌ Don’t ignore:
• Sores lasting longer than 2 weeks
• Red or white patches
• Lumps, swelling, or numbness
• Pain or difficulty swallowing

Taking a proactive approach with an oral surgeon can support early treatment, reduce the risk of complications, and give you confidence in your care.

Recovering from wisdom teeth removal 🦷 doesn’t have to be stressful.

Prioritize rest for the first day or two and reduce swelling with ice packs on your face. Bite down on gauze to control bleeding and stick to soft foods while avoiding straws, smoking, or spitting. Take medications as prescribed to manage pain and inflammation. Starting the day after surgery, gently rinse with warm salt water and carefully brush around your teeth, avoiding the extraction sites.

These steps protect your healing process and help you get back to feeling like yourself faster.

Spring Break = ideal recovery time for wisdom teeth removal! Leaving wisdom teeth untreated may result in:

👉 Crowding & Misalignment: Teeth may shift, leading to bite problems and potential orthodontic setbacks.

👉 Damage to Adjacent Teeth: Impacted teeth can wear down or crack nearby molars.

👉 Infections & Gum Issues: Partially erupted teeth are prone to painful infections.

👉 Cysts & Benign Tumors: Can destroy surrounding jawbone and tissue if untreated.

No pain, no reason to get your wisdom teeth removed, right? Not necessarily! 👀

Wisdom teeth can silently crowd your teeth or cause infections over time. Removing them early—especially in teens and young adults—usually means less swelling, less trauma, and a faster recovery.

How do dental implants work? 🦷

Dental implants replace missing teeth using small, titanium posts that act as artificial tooth roots. These implants are placed into the jawbone, where they naturally fuse with the bone through a process called osseointegration.

Once healed, a custom crown is attached, restoring your smile with a solution that looks, feels, and functions just like a natural tooth.

Thinking about dental implants? Our team is here to guide you every step of the way.

Choosing the right tooth replacement option matters. While bridges can improve appearance, they require healthy neighboring teeth to be filed down, which can weaken them and increase the risk of decay over time. Dental implants 🦷 go further by supporting your long-term oral health.

Implants bond with the jawbone, preserving bone density, preventing facial collapse, and creating a strong, stable foundation for your new smile. With superior comfort, function, and longevity, dental implants are the leading solution for long-term tooth restoration. 💪

When a tooth is missing, the jawbone that once supported it can begin to change and lose volume over time.

Bone grafting helps address this loss. It may be recommended when there isn’t enough natural bone to support a dental implant. 🦷 By rebuilding and strengthening the jaw, bone grafting creates a stable foundation for implant placement and long-term results.

For patients considering dental implants, bone grafting is often an important step in preparing the jaw.

🦷 Eating After Dental Implant Surgery 🦷

After your procedure, soft foods are key. Choose mild, easy-to-eat options that won’t disturb the surgical site and will support proper healing.

➡️ Best foods during recovery:
• Yogurt, applesauce, oatmeal, mashed potatoes
• Scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, soft or flaky fish
• Protein shakes or smoothies (no straws)
• Soups and broths served warm—not hot

➡️ Foods to skip for now:
• Crunchy or hard foods like chips, nuts, toast, and crackers
• Foods with sharp edges that could irritate the area •
Spicy or very hot foods early in healing

➡️ Recovery tips:
• Drink plenty of fluids
• Opt for smaller meals if chewing feels tiring
• Chew on the opposite side until advised otherwise
• Avoid straws to protect healing tissue

When it comes to recovery, simple, soft foods go a long way.
