We recently spent the day at Lenny Boy Brewing capturing stories of Stephanie and Kenna, two talented employees supported by Monarch. Between laughs and lights, they shared what their jobs mean to them — and why inclusive workplaces matter.

During DSP Recognition Week, we’re proud to highlight team members like Gwen Jones, a Developmental Specialist at Monarch’s Camden Enrichment Center in Camden, NC. For the past seven years, Gwen has poured compassion, patience and dedication into supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

She builds meaningful connections and encourages personal growth every day — just like she is here, doing crafts with Wendy Copeland at Camden. Moments like this reflect Gwen’s gift for creating an environment where everyone feels valued, included and empowered.

In the spirit of Developmental Specialist Professional (DSP) Recognition Week, we introduce you to Michael “Mr. Mike” Taylor (pictured left).

Mr. Mike is a dedicated DSP at Monarch’s Beach Club day program in Manteo, NC. He has been with Monarch for more than four years and has built a strong, trusting relationship with Ronnie (pictured right) since they first met in 2021.

The Beach Club crew attended the adaptive camp at Jennette's Pier, where Ronnie and Mr. Mike took on climbing walls and obstacle courses together. Their trusting relationship was truly on display as they navigated each obstacle, relying on one another for support and encouragement along the way. For the people we support, having a DSP they can rely on is essential to building confidence, forming connections and creating opportunities to thrive in the community.

Thank you, Mr. Mike, for your dedication, your structure and the steady encouragement you bring to Ronnie and everyone around you. Your impact reaches far beyond the walls of our programs!

This week kicks off Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week — a time to honor the compassionate, dedicated professionals who are the heart of what we do at Monarch. 💙

DSPs are the everyday heroes who empower the people we support to live their best lives. They do so much more than provide care — they teach skills, foster independence, encourage inclusion and create opportunities for personal growth.

Although "DSP" is a specific job title, this week we celebrate all Monarch staff who provide direct support in similar roles and make such a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

All week long, we’ll be sharing highlights from across Monarch and providing information about how you can become a DSP. Join us in celebrating their incredible impact and thanking them for the difference they make every single day!
