Let’s Talk About Oral Ties 👅💬

Oral ties—like tongue ties or lip ties—can impact more than just feeding in infancy.

They may also affect:

🍽️ How a child chews and swallows
💬 How clearly they speak
👅 How their tongue rests and moves
😴 Even how they breathe and sleep

At Carolina Kinder Development, our speech and occupational therapists are trained to assess oral ties through a whole-child lens. That means we don’t just look at structure—we look at function: how your child eats, talks, moves, and feels.

We guide families through what’s typical, what’s not, and whether therapy, exercises, or a referral may be appropriate.

If you’ve ever wondered about oral ties and whether they could be contributing to feeding or speech challenges, we’re here to help you get clarity—with compassion and expertise. 💙

Want to help your child build a healthy relationship with food? Let them get messy!

Sensory exploration—touching, squishing, smelling, and even playing with food—isn’t just fun, it’s foundational.

It helps children:

👃 Get comfortable with new textures and smells
✋ Build oral-motor skills used in chewing and swallowing
🧠 Reduce anxiety around unfamiliar foods
🍽️ Develop curiosity instead of resistance at mealtimes

At Carolina Kinder Development, we use play-based, sensory-rich feeding therapy to help children feel confident and curious at the table—not pressured.

Because a little mess now can lead to a lot less stress later. 😉

Torticollis is often described as a “tight neck,” but it’s more than just a noticeable head tilt. In babies, torticollis can show up in subtle ways—and it can affect so many parts of development.

Here are a few signs parents may notice:

🔁 Always turning the head to one side
📸 A consistent head tilt in photos
🍼 Preferring to feed on one side
😣 Fussiness with tummy time or certain positions
🧠 A flat spot developing on one area of the head
🖐️ Using one side of the body more than the other

Because the neck and body work as a team, torticollis can impact:

✅ Movement patterns (rolling, reaching, crawling)
✅ Feeding comfort (positioning and coordination)
✅ Head shape (plagiocephaly or asymmetry)

The good news? With early therapy and the right support, torticollis is highly treatable—and progress can happen quickly when we address it early.

If you’ve noticed any of these signs and you’re wondering what’s typical, Carolina Kinder Development is here to help with calm, expert guidance.

A cranial band helps gently reshape your baby’s head—but it doesn’t treat why the flat spot developed in the first place.

That’s where movement therapy comes in.
Therapy addresses the root causes like torticollis, muscle tightness, or movement asymmetries—helping your baby build strength, symmetry, and functional movement patterns that last far beyond the helmet.

At Carolina Kinder Development, we do both. 💙

Reshape the head. Rebuild the movement. Support the whole baby.

Working on rolling starts before the big move happens! 💫
Here are a few pre-rolling skills we love to support in therapy (and you can try at home):

🖐️ Hands to feet play
🎯 Reaching for toys at chest height or across the body
👀 Tracking toys up and over the shoulder

These movements help build the core strength, coordination, and body awareness your baby needs to roll with confidence.

Why Work With a Pediatric Therapist? 🤝👶

You don’t have to wait for a diagnosis—or feel completely stuck—to seek support.

Working with a pediatric therapist means having a guide who understands your baby’s development from head to toe (and everything in between).

Here’s how we help at Carolina Kinder Development:

🧠 We catch things early
Pediatric therapists are trained to spot small signs that may lead to bigger challenges later—so we can step in early and gently.

💪 We support milestones with purpose
From tummy time to crawling to feeding and beyond, we help babies build strength, confidence, and coordination through intentional, age-appropriate movement.

💬 We empower parents
You’ll never leave guessing. We walk you through what to do, why it matters, and how to support your child at home.

🤝 We work with the whole child
Motor skills, head shape, feeding, movement patterns—it's all connected. Our therapists look at the full picture and tailor care to your child’s unique needs.
You’re not alone in this season. We’re here with calm, expert support to help your child (and you) feel confident in the journey ahead.

Every baby develops at their own pace—but if walking is delayed, it may be a sign your child could benefit from a little extra support.

At Carolina Kinder Development, we look beyond the calendar and focus on the why behind late walking.

Early intervention helps babies:
💪 Build the strength needed for standing and steps
⚖️ Improve balance and coordination
🧠 Strengthen the connection between movement and the nervous system
💬 Gain the confidence to explore and take risks (like letting go!)

Our therapists gently guide babies through purposeful play and movement that supports walking—not just as a milestone, but as a foundation for lifelong motor skills.

💡 If your baby isn’t walking by 15–18 months, or is struggling with balance or movement patterns, we’re here to help you know what to look for—and how to move forward with confidence.

Noticing a flat spot on your baby’s head? You’re not alone—and you don’t have to wait and see.

At Carolina Kinder Development, we offer head shape therapy designed to gently and effectively address conditions like plagiocephaly and brachycephaly—often caused by movement preferences, tightness, or early positioning patterns.

What does head shape therapy look like?

✔️ In-depth evaluation of your baby’s head shape and movement
✔️ Therapist-led sessions that support better positioning and symmetry
✔️ Education and tools you can use confidently at home
✔️ In-house cranial band fitting and management (when needed)

It’s not just about aesthetics—it’s about comfort, movement, and setting the stage for healthy development.

💡 Early support makes a big difference. If you’re wondering whether your baby’s head shape is typical, we’re here to help—with expert eyes and a gentle, hands-on approach.

Cold weather tip for baby movement! ❄️👶

As the temps drop, it’s natural to cozy up indoors, bundle your baby in layers, and maybe spend a little more time in swings or bouncers. But here’s something to keep in mind…

🧠 Less time on the floor = fewer opportunities for movement and milestone practice.

That means skills like rolling, sitting, crawling, and exploring can get delayed or skipped altogether—simply because babies aren’t on the floor as much.

Here’s how to help, even in winter:

✔️ Create a warm, safe floor space (a playmat and soft clothes go a long way!)
✔️ Limit bulky layers during playtime—give baby freedom to move
✔️ Prioritize daily tummy time, even in short spurts
✔️ Think “floor first” before containers like swings or seats

Movement matters—and even in cooler months, we can keep building strength, coordination, and confidence through play.

Need ideas for your baby’s stage or wondering what’s typical? Our therapists at Carolina Kinder Development are here to guide you.
