Keeping track of a loved one's medications can feel overwhelming. Here's how to make it manageable.
When you're caring for a senior at home, a few simple habits can prevent missed doses, dangerous mix-ups, and unnecessary ER visits.
Here's where to start:
β’ Keep one master list with every prescription, over-the-counter medicine, vitamin, and supplement, including the dose, timing, and purpose. Bring it to every appointment.
β’ Use one pharmacy when possible so refills, interaction checks, and medication history all stay in one place.
β’ Set a daily routine with pill organizers, alarms, or reminders so doses happen at the same time every day.
β’ After any hospital stay, confirm exactly what was started, stopped, or changed before coming home.
β’ Refill early, sync refill dates, and store medicines as directed since some require specific temperature or light conditions.
β’ Watch for side effects or behavior changes, especially when something new is added, and always keep the care team in the loop.
You don't have to figure this out alone. π
Home care can make medication management much safer and less stressful. A caregiver can help with reminders, organizing pill boxes, tracking doses, and catching anything that doesn't seem right.
