The cognitive model explains how a person’s thoughts and beliefs affect their feelings and behaviors. It can be used to help people improve their mental health by replacing irrational beliefs with rational ones.

This model is based on the idea that rational beliefs lead to good mental health and irrational beliefs lead to mental health issues. It also states that a person’s thoughts about a situation determine how they will behave in response to that situation.

Using the cognitive model, you will learn to identify your own patterns of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. You’ll come to understand how your thoughts shape how you feel, and how they impact your life in significant ways.

Once you become aware of your own irrational thoughts, you will learn to change them. The thoughts that once led to depression, anxiety, and anger will be replaced with new, healthy alternatives, and you will be in control of how you feel💭

Sometimes it’s not what you say, but how you say it. Being mindful of the way you communicate with the people in your life will allow you to grow your relationships and improve your ability to bring up difficult topics.

Communication skills make it easier to connect with others, be vulnerable and honest, and better understand the people we care about.

A lot of growth can come from communicating wants, needs, worries, and hopes!

Whether you’re talking to a friend, family member, significant other, or peer, take the time to understand their perspective. Show the person you are with that you hear them. Be respectful and recognize that a different perspective is not necessarily a wrong one. Be mindful of the words you choose, be honest about your opinions, and admit when you disagree.

As we move towards the end of the year, I want to take time to recognize that the next couple months will likely be challenging for many. On top of the normal, everyday stress that we all encounter, we are now entering into the holiday season and election time.

While the holidays are meant to be a time of cheer and rest, they are often made complicated by several factors. Inability to travel, work schedules, finances, and family relationships are just some of the potential stressors that will come with this season.

Since it is an election year, it is also likely that many will spend the holidays alone due to the division caused by today’s political world.

Slow down, be kind to your neighbors, lean on your support system, and try to focus on what is good in the world🤍

Happy World Mental Health Day!

Today is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. World Mental Health Day began in October of 1992 to raise awareness of mental health issues and encourage efforts to support those experiencing mental health issues.

This year’s theme is “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace.”

I challenge you to use today to reflect on how you can advocate for mental health in your own community. It is also a great opportunity to be intentional about doing the things that make you feel your best🌻

Knowing your love language can strengthen your relationships and allow you to love and be loved in the best ways.

Some people feel loved when they hear verbal affirmations or supportive comments, while others appreciate physical gifts more. Maybe you most appreciate when your partner does something kind or helpful for you just because they can. Spending intentional quality time with your partner is also one of the main ways to give and receive love, as is physical connection.

Love languages might shift over time, and it may be that more than 1 of 5 stand out to you as most important. Take the time to understand your own love language, as well as those of your loved ones.

Many people believe that therapy is only for those who are seriously struggling with problems and symptoms, when really anyone can benefit from meeting with a therapist.
