4 Myths about going to the DENTIST:
We all know dentistry has a stigma. From personal experience to cost, there are lots of reasons people avoid going to the dentist.
We’re going to break down the top 4 reasons, and you’ll be surprised what really scares people the most…
Reason #1: People don’t like going to the dentist.
1. They just don’t like it.
Well for some, the idea of what and who the dentist is outweighs any decision to call and make an appointment. This is a true barrier! But what if the idea you have of the dentist doesn’t match with who your local dentist is? Many who avoid the dentist and eventually come in are surprised to find out their neighborhood dentist cares about them and is dedicated to help them achieve better oral health.
2. Dentistry is expensive.
At face value, this has some weight. But what is the true driver of cost? Being unhealthy. Dentistry often gets most expensive when it is more involved. More complex procedures do have a higher cost. But what about preventative procedures? Believe it or not, most preventative care is covered by dental insurance and even if an office isn’t corporate or in-network, your dental costs for prevention can be very low or even covered completely.
3. My schedule is too busy to call.
People are more busy than ever. But if you’ve read this far, the appointment you have been avoiding scheduling could already have been made within the past few minutes! There is never a good time for an emergency. And teeth ironically choose the worst times to become problematic. So refer to myth #2 if you are on the edge of scheduling that overdue visit. Let’s prevent the problems before they happen!
4. I don’t like the noises.
You got us here… Sometimes having your teeth cleaned or repaired is noisy. But so is a car wash, and for the same reasons! So bring your headphones and turn up the tunes, or play that audiobook you’ve been wanting to listen to. Before you know it, you’ll be walking out with your pearly whites all bright.
So what are people really afraid of? Maybe just not knowing what to expect or who it is taking care of them. Were we close? Yes or no, comment below!
