At the AANP Annual Member meeting we had the great pleasure to hear from Maria Smilios author of The Black Angels and Virginia Allen, the last living Black Angel. The book; The Black Angels, tells the story of the 300 courageous, innovative, pioneering African American nurses who helped cure the plague of tuberculosis in the late 1920’s in Staten Island, NY at Sea View Hospital.
