As you age, your body naturally changes—flexibility decreases, muscles may weaken, bone density decreases, and recovery from injuries takes longer. The activities that once felt easy might now require a little more effort. That’s why it’s important to adjust your exercise routine after age 50. Focus first on maintaining proper form with movements that match your current flexibility and range of motion. Consider scheduling with a physical therapist to determine your fitness level and what types of exercises may work best for you. Once you're confident and moving comfortably, you can gradually increase the weight and number of repetitions to build strength safely. Staying active is an important part of physical therapy, but when temperatures rise, it’s essential to adjust your routine to prevent heat-related illnesses. Whether you’re recovering from surgery, injury, or working on strength and mobility, try exercising indoors and during cooler hours. Overheating can lead to dizziness, muscle cramps, or dehydration, which can slow your progress and create potential health dangers. Check in with your therapist about heat-safe modifications.

Did you know physical therapy can help reduce the frequency and severity of migraines and headaches? Poor posture, neck tension, and improper jaw alignment all contribute to triggering headaches.
