As part of our continued partnership with the Humane Society of Charlotte, our Kindness Council rolled up their sleeves for a special project this past week. Residents baked homemade dog treats with care, then made a special trip to deliver them to the shelter. We’re proud to support our community, and animals in need, in such a hands-on and heartfelt way.

Last week, our residents got creative with a fun and festive flip flop door hanger craft. Each hanger features a summery design and a cheerful “July” to mark the month. Now proudly displayed on their apartment doors, these colorful creations are bringing summer cheer to our community!

Our residents had a wonderful time during a recent visit to the Cat Cafe at the Humane Society of Charlotte. They enjoyed sweet treats, warm company, and plenty of purrs from some very friendly, adoptable cats. This outing was a perfect blend of relaxation, joy, and companionship.

As part of our partnership with the Humane Society, we’re shining a spotlight on the special bond between our residents and their senior pets. Meet Marti and her beloved Havanese, Susha. Calm and people-loving, Susha has been by Marti’s side since she was just 6 weeks old. From road trips to quiet days at home, Susha brings comfort, companionship, and a gentle reminder to be patient. She loves visiting others—but don’t be surprised when she’s ready to head home. More than just a pet, Susha is Marti’s loyal companion, always just a few steps behind.

Our residents let their creativity shine just in time for Independence Day with a festive craft. Each person chose a patriotic stencil to paint on a wooden decorative block, creating a unique piece to display outside their apartment. The finished designs turned out beautifully and added a cheerful red, white, and blue touch to our community for the holiday last Friday!

We’re proud to continue our partnership with the Humane Society of Charlotte by spotlighting senior pets in search of loving homes. This week, we’re thrilled to introduce a very special feline friend. Meet Ellie, an 11-year-old sweetheart with a heart full of love and just a tiny dash of nerves. She may take a moment to warm up, but once she does, she's all purrs and snuggles. Don't let her age fool you-Ellie still zooms after feather toys like she's auditioning for the Cat Olympics (Senior Division, but don't tell her that). She's ready to spend her golden years being your loyal, loving lap companion!

All adoptions are handled on a first-come, first-served basis at the Humane Society of Charlotte Adoption Center, located at 1348 Parker Drive. No appointment is needed to meet your future furry friend! Hours: Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and Saturday 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

On Friday, Shirlee enjoyed an Adventure back to the Levine Jewish Community Center (JCC) where she previously was an ambassador for their Oasis program, and also founded their Rock Steady Boxing Against Parkinson’s group! Shirlee was welcomed with open arms as she returned to her old stomping grounds, greeted warmly by her peers. As a long-time Charlotte resident, Shirlee has strong ties to her community at “The J”, and couldn’t keep a smile off her face as she reunited with them. She even got to visit with her old program directors, Jill, Sherri, and Suzanne, among others. We loved celebrating Shirlee and witnessing firsthand the widespread impact she has had, and continues to have, on those around her.

We’re excited to kick off our Clear the Shelter summer campaign in partnership with the Humane Society of Charlotte. From now through August, we’ll be collecting donations to help support animals in need. A list of requested items can be found on the flyer, and donations can be dropped off in the collection box located in our main lobby anytime between now and August 14th. Thank you for helping us make a difference!

What a perfect afternoon on Lake Norman! Our residents had a wonderful time soaking up the sunshine at Eddie's on Lake Norman, enjoying cold drinks, delicious food, and the best company you could ask for. Summer is off to a great start!
