One of my massage clients today was a new-to-me client. Never been here before, but was referred to me for having been suffering for the past six weeks with the pain of a suspected herniated disc in the lumbar vertebrae. Anyways, super stern and serious man. Very short with communication, and during intake I questioned whether I'd be able to do a good job while feeling so intimidated by him. Anyways, I kept it super professional, used all the appropriate medical terminology, and got into my zone during the session, let all that intimidation go, and just followed my hands and did what I do. He was in a lot of pain and it was very difficult during the session to gage whether it was going to go well or not. Cases like this can go one of two ways... you help them and they're feeling better and happy, or massage can aggravate the situation and they're left still in pain afterwards. I just always do my best and hope for the best. I finished the massage, and left the room to give him a chance to get up and get dressed, still not knowing whether everything I'd done was helpful or if he thought it sucked. ππ€£
Long story even longer...he opened the door after getting dressed, still with the most stern and serious look on his face and he said, "I think what you've done here is remarkable."
