Blue Ridge Family Practice

Blue Ridge Family Practice Modern medicine, old-fashioned care. A Direct Primary Care practice for adults and children of all ages. We combine modern medicine with old-fashioned service.

Blue Ridge Family Practice is the Direct Primary Care practice of Drs. Maura and Tim McLaughlin, serving the Crozet area and beyond since 2016. Patients pay via a monthly membership fee which covers all office visits and care over the phone. This payment structure allows us to focus on caring for our patients and not on billing insurance, and allows us to keep costs affordable for people with high-deductible or no insurance. We have patients with no insurance, healthshare plans, Medicare, Medicaid, high-deductible insurance and low-deductible insurance. We offer cash pricing for labs with a discount of 90% or more off the listed price, which can save hundreds or thousands of dollars per year for those without insurance or with high-deductible plans. All patients, regardless of insurance, can benefit from this practice model, which offers extended visit times, same or next day availability for urgent medical problems, and a small staff who knows and cares about you as a person. This is some of the advice we sent out to our patients re: covid-19 (coronavirus) tonight. The time to do this is NOW, before covid-19 infects such a high number of people that it completely overwhelms our health care system (not enough breathing machines or supplies will result in deaths that could have been avoided). Social distancing: Do not attend any unnecessary gatherings of people. Do not attend religious services. Do not go to the gym. Do not travel. Keep your kids/yourself home from school if possible. Work from home if possible. Stay in your own home or outdoor areas as much as possible. If you are a leader of any organization, suspend all classes/meetings/practices/games. We cannot stress highly enough the importance of this. Social distancing is the only known way to slow the spread of this virus.
This protects you and your family, but also protects the vulnerable members of our community.
Widespread social distancing can make an enormous difference in number of infections and deaths. The time is NOW.

Social distancing is the only way to stop the coronavirus. We must start immediately.

Dr. Maura McLaughlin of Blue Ridge Family Practice was featured in this week's issue of C-VILLE. Her practice offers primary care for adults and children of all ages for $15-60/month, greatly discounted pricing for lab tests (most common tests less than $10 each), and direct cell phone access to your own doctor, even nights and weekends. Conveniently located on Rt. 250 in Crozet, www.blueridgefamilypractice.org for more information

Maura McLaughlin still remembers the day in January 2015 she heard about a revolutionary way to practice medicine—like doctors used to do decades ago. Now she spends as much time as she needs with patients, who can come see her as often as they like at a reasonable cost. A key component: She doesn...

This patient with a high deductible insurance plan has saved $1300 this year by paying his doctor directly rather than billing insurance. Cost is $15-60/month depending on age, covers all office visits without additional co-pays. Greatly discounted cash pricing available for labs, with most common tests less than $10 each. We are located on Route 250 in Crozet. We encourage, but do not require, patients to have medical insurance to cover potential needs outside our clinic. Thanks to CBS News, who came from NYC to Crozet (!) to film us, and, most of all, thanks to all-around awesome guy Chuck Gulat for being willing to share his story.

A huge thank you to all who wrote to Governor McAuliffe to urge him to sign HB 2053 and SB 800. These bills had bipartisan support in both the House and Senate, and were supported by patients, small businesses, and physicians. Today, the Governor signed these bills--supporting access to high-quality, affordable primary care to all Virginians through ! Please consider sending a quick email to Gov. McAuliffe by Mar 21 to help protect Direct Primary Care practices like ours. DPC practices, because we do not bill insurance, are able to make primary care affordable to people with high deductible insurance or no insurance, and allow doctors to spend more time with patients than is possible in an insurance-based setting. The Gov. has until Mar 27 to sign or veto two bills that protect Virginia DPC practices. These bills have passed both the House and Senate with bipartisan support. Last year a similar bill was vetoed by Gov. McAuliffe after it was opposed by only the insurance lobby, while being supported by patients, physicians, and small businesses. We will be meeting with the Governor’s staff this Wed Mar 22. Email the Gov. at terence.mcauliffe@governor.virginia.gov and cc: the Policy Director at jennie.oholleran@governor.virginia.gov and bcc: us at dpcvirginia@gmail.com to ask the Governor to please sign HB 2053 and SB 800 to provide high-quality, affordable health care to all Virginians. Thank you!
