Congratulations 2026 graduates! 🎓

You have studied endlessly, learned as much as you possibly could from instructors and preceptors, and if you are lucky you know where you are going to work! As you embark on this journey, please remember:

Empower each other.

Remember that it is a privilege to do this work.

Don’t ever stop learning, even after you clock out.

Be empathetic. Listen.

Know the literature. Stay updated on recent publications. Ask questions.

Show up to multidisciplinary rounds every day, prepared. Every day. Prepared.

If you aren’t invited to rounds, show up anyway! And don’t ever stop. Ever.

Don’t be afraid to say “I don’t know, but I will find out.”

You will get burnt out. You will discover this job is harder than you ever imagined. You will feel defeated, angry, frustrated, and disrespected. Prepare for it, reach out for help, focus on what you CAN control, and don’t stop moving forward.

Last but not least, be an American Association for Respiratory Care - AARC member, and connect with other professionals. They will become like family that you can always count on to support you!

Your VSRC President,

Madison Fratzke, BSc, RRT, RRT-ACCS
