These graphic novel illustrations for The Adventures of Dr. Invisible, written by Dr. Leslie P. King, were a challenge that occupied me for a good part of the past few months. It led me to read Maus (stunning work!!) and definitely sharpened my admiration for comic book artists.

This was commissioned as a potential cover for the journal Molecular Cell. It represents research on a molecule that prevents proteasomes (the troll) from gobbling up the proteins that enable crossing over of genes during meiosis. Another far flung client sent me a pic of their project in use this past week, out of the blue. This one was done years ago for an engineering grad student at UC Davis who was developing a drone that uses radar to detect underground unexploded ordnance. He has just successfully defended his dissertation. Never met the guy, but it was fun learning about his slice of the world.
