Today, we pause to honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. 🇺🇸

On this Memorial Day, Service Dogs of Virginia reflects with deep gratitude for the brave men and women who served—and for the healing journeys of the veterans, first responders, and families we are privileged to support.

Our service dogs carry forward a mission rooted in loyalty, comfort, and unwavering companionship. They stand beside those who carry invisible wounds, offering steadiness in moments of stress, courage in moments of fear, and connection when it’s needed most.

Today and every day, we remember the fallen, honor their legacy, and remain committed to serving those who continue to carry their memory forward.

At first glance, just color and pattern—but look a little closer… there’s more hiding here. 👀✨
As we share our final work-in-progress sneak peek of the statues, we’re excited to feature this stunning mosaic by artist Jane Feild, made possible by longtime SDV supporter George Ohrstrom II.

Filled with intricate detail and vibrant color, this piece reveals something unexpected when you step back and take it all in.

Right now, all of the statues are on display Oakencroft Farm & Winery, but beginning in July they’ll start appearing throughout the community and in other cities across Virginia. Be sure to visit our map to see where the statues will be located—we can’t wait for you to experience them in person! 🐾🎨

SDV Board member Jim had the honor of bringing SDV Justine to a memorial service in remembrance of her namesake.

Service Dogs of Virginia is deeply honored to have named Justine in memory of Justine Jocelyne, a cherished supporter of our mission. Her legacy lives on through this special dog and the work she will soon go on to do as a service dog—bringing independence and support to someone in need. 🐾💙

In honor of America’s 250th Anniversary, and inspired by the Marquis de Lafayette—the French ally who played a pivotal role in the American Revolution—this special pup carries a name rooted in friendship, service, and history. 🇺🇸

SDV Lafayette’s lineage reflects that same spirit of partnership: his father comes from a French school Association-C-e-s-e-c-a-h in France, and his mother comes from Warrior Canine Connection in Maryland.

We’re excited to watch him grow, learn, and begin his journey toward service. And with his namesake’s historic connection to Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, we’ll be keeping an eye on whether SDV Lafayette makes a training visit there someday. 🐶✨

If this statue could talk, that's exactly what it would say: be bold, be colorful, be striped.

Artist Warren "Andy" Andrews has created something truly special — sponsored by Neroli Med Spa & Beauty Lounge and dedicated to every mind that sees the world a little differently.

SDV Barnaby and his puppy raiser Tina had a wonderful time touring Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. 🐾✨

This was a very advanced outing for Barnaby, but he handled it like a pro—calm, confident, and taking in every moment as if it were second nature.

A big thank you to Tina for guiding him through such an important real-world experience, and to Monticello for the warm welcome. Barnaby continues to impress with every step of his training journey.
