As the year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the powerful moments your support makes possible — moments like the one a little girl shared with SDV Wagner.

She had spent years in and out of hospitals. Even when the medical treatments slowed, the fear, anxiety, and trauma didn’t.

Then she met Wagner.

In the therapist’s room, a big black Lab sat beside her, offering a quiet nudge and the steady, unconditional presence only he could give. No pressure, no expectations—just a moment where the worries eased.

Her mother said:

“Wagner gave our daughter something no test or therapy alone could offer. He made feeling safe possible. He made being seen and heard feel possible. He turned what could have been just another appointment into a memory filled with gentleness, joy, and hope."

This is the kind of healing your support creates.

Your year-end gift helps us train more dogs like Wagner — dogs who walk into the hardest moments of someone’s life and remind them they’re not alone. 💛🐾

On this Christmas Eve, when the world finally slows down for a moment, we’re thinking about the quiet kinds of gifts that mean the most.

In a fast-moving, often overwhelming world, Finn is JJ’s calm. His steady support. His path to greater independence. 🐕🦺

“Finn has made such a positive impact on JJ’s life… Finn brings peace in chaotic moments and is a steady support for our little boy.” mom Megan

This is what your generosity looks like.

As you reflect on the season of giving and your year-end contributions, we hope you’ll consider a gift to Service Dogs of Virginia.

What if a medical condition kept you from living the life you wanted?
For Hannah, Addison’s disease means fatigue, dizziness, and dangerous adrenal crises.

With service dogs SDV Olive and now SDV Clara, she’s been able to stay safe and live independently.

Hannah works in theater, so she says it best with a line borrowed from Wicked:
“I have been changed for good.”

Watch the reel to read Hannah’s words — and donate to help more teams like hers.

With SDV Judith by her side, Laura has found greater comfort, confidence, and independence in her everyday life.

“There isn’t a part of my life that hasn’t improved since Judith came into it. Tasks that were once difficult—or even impossible—are now manageable. On the harder days, she always finds a way to lift my spirits. Our bond is hard to describe, but it goes much deeper than what meets the eye.”
— Laura, SDV Client

This is the difference a service dog can make.
And this is what your generosity makes possible.

When you support Service Dogs of Virginia, you’re doing more than funding training—you’re helping create essential, life-changing partnerships that bring comfort, safety, and renewed possibility to people who need it most.
