For a service dog, that means lying calmly under the table, staying out of the way but close to her handler. She nailed it at brunch with her nights/weekends volunteer today.

Something tells us she’s practicing for her spot under the table on Thanksgiving. 😉🦃

At Service Dogs of Virginia, our PTSD service dogs bring calm, comfort, and independence to veterans. They’re loyal partners who offer peace in moments of chaos — and remind our heroes they’re never alone.

This Veterans Day, let’s honor their courage — and the quiet battles they continue to fight, sometimes with a loyal paw by their side.

Ralph has been working as an Autism Service Dog for over a year, and the difference he’s made is incredible!

Elliott used to have an intense fear of storms, but over the past eight months, Ralph has been right by his side—sitting with him, letting Elliott “talk” him through the storm, and providing comfort. Thanks to Ralph, Elliott no longer needs noise-canceling headphones, storms no longer disrupt their day, and he can continue on as usual.

Ralph is also a pro at helping Elliott after meltdowns. Elliott can call for Ralph while upset, and Ralph is immediately there with a hug, helping him calm down quickly so they can move forward together. 💛

As a well-earned reward, Ralph enjoys some downtime…paddleboarding on the river! 🛶🐶 (Though he may be more “captain” than paddler!)
