Today I'm introducing a very special partner of ours, former Eagle Scout, Dr. Bennett! He is a good friend of ours and is one of our very valuable partners. He is a board certified orthopedic and spine surgeon at Phoenix Childrens Hospital in the East Valley Metro Phoenix area.
Dr. Bennett was drawn to Phoenix Children's by his desire to bring the best and newest technology to Arizona. As a child, his younger brother had a neuromuscular condition that required multiple orthopedic surgeries to allow him to walk. Whenever his brother needed a sugery they had to fly him from Arizona to Utah to have access to the technology to perform these surgeries. After this experience, Dr. Bennett was determined to bring the expertise and technology that Utah had back to Arizona. Dr. Bennett received his medical dregree at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington D.C. After getting his medical degree he returned to the University if Arizona to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery. Then, his fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery at the University of Utah solidified his interest in working with children. Later in life, He served as the administrative chief resident at the University of Arizona. He was voted as a "Top Doc" by Albuquerque Magazine, recognized by his peers for excellence as a pediatric specialist. Currently, he is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, the Western Orthopaedic Association and the Scoliosis Research Society. When he's not doing sugery he is an assistant professor of pediatric orthopedic surgery at the University of Arizona. There he researches innovative solutions that increase the overall quality of orthopedic care. The University of New Mexico Orthopedics Research Journal has published several of his papers on topics including scoliosis, femur care and patella treatments. He has also written three medical textbooks, including the best-selling Fracture Healing in Children: A Review of Pediatric Osseous Modeling and Remodeling.
When he's not working he enjoys spending time with his family, playing the guitar and 3D printing. A fun fact about Dr. Bennett is that he became a certified luthier (guitar builder) at age 13! I don't know about you guys but I find his story amazing and inspiring to everyone! So, go support him by reading his books, magazines, newspaper articles or at David M. Bennett on Facebook.
