Hey Everyone! I am so excited to announce that
starting in May, I will have several opening for
several new private music students. I can either provide lessons in my home or I would be willing to come to you, however my mileage limit is currently about 20 miles. I work with children and adults, and I also provide adapted lessons for those with developmental, cognitive or physical challenges.

If you or your child are interested in private music lessons over the summer please reach out and we can discuss what that might look like for you! Let the music inside of you be known!

This is a fantastic segment from PBS about music therapy services and how it can be used to assistance with brain trauma and other neurological impairments/challenges that can be connected to disabilities such as autism spectrum disorders, Downs syndrome, cerebral palsy, and many others. This was aired in 2015 with a wonderful music therapist in Maine!

If you are interested in music therapy services for you or a loved one, or perhaps just want to learn more about it, you can send me a PM and I will reach out to you!

This is what my typical work station looks like for virtual music therapy sessions! They have been going great for the past year and I are so grateful for technology! It has helped me stay connected with my clients and maintain our therapeutic relationship which is a large aspect of music therapy services. Check out some of my favorite session materials!

PS I will be fully vaccinated in by the end of April and will be returning to in person group sessions I. May! I cannot wait, and I know my clients are excited. If you have ever been interested in music therapy services, or know someone who would like to learn more or could benefit, reach out!

Today is World Autism Awareness Day! Wear blue to show your support!

Did you know?
“Stimming” or self stimulating behaviors, is a form of self regulation. Individuals use these behaviors to help them cope with the word around them. You may seem someone flap their hands or make a funny sound while rocking. Individuals can do this when they are excited, happy, stressed, scared or frustrated. Here is the thing that you may not know, we all stim! You may not be aware of what you do to help you manage the sensory and emotional input you receive during the day. For example, I count the digits on my fingers when I am anxious or stressed. I also shake my foot or bounce my leg when I am thinking about something really important. So the next time you see someone using these behaviors, consider why they may be doing it. Are they excited about something? Or are the frustrated and stressed out? Maybe they are overwhelmed by a loud noise or a piece of clothing. Our central nervous system controls so much, that we don’t always realize how hard it working!

I’m sure you all have thinking about the small businesses here in Virginia. Unfortunately with the COVID-19 crisis, we have lost several contracts and many others have been suspended until the virus is under control.

Currently, we can offer music therapy services and music lessons via Telehealth, so please let us know if you would be interested!

We will continue to pray for those who are sick or who have lost income during this time. It’s a scary and frustrating time in history, but we will come out the other side! Hang in there everyone!
