March is Endometriosis Awereness month. As many of you know, we fight Endometriosis on a daily basis here at the CAG. I was happy to see this piece on CBS last month. Every year, I find patients more knowledgeable and informed about endometriosis--and at an earlier age--than the year before.
The earlier we can identify and treat the better I hope people's lives will be!

Worldwide, 1 in 10 women of reproductive age suffer from a condition known as endometriosis. It’s an illness where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows in places it’s not supposed to be, and can lead to infertility, debilitating pain and financial hardship. Ali Rogin spoke with gynecologic...

🚨 NEW TERMINOLOGY 🚨

Myofascial Urgency Frequency Syndrome is a newer term referring to 💧urgency and frequency without bladder pain and pressure.

This is helpful terminology because👉 people with this diagnosis will benefit from manual pelvic floor physical or occupational therapy according to the American Urologic Association Guidelines.

If you have not read our blog on this topic please drop a 🔥 below and we will send you the link!

Hunner’s Ulcers👇
🔺Refer to lesions of the bladder lining that can lead to pain, urgency, and frequency
🔺Historically thought to be the reason for irritative bladder symptoms

Dr. Barron posting here: I just got Covid for the first time. It was inevitable I suppose. Luckily, I don’t have severe symptoms and glad I’ve been vaccinated as advised by the CDC. As the respiratory virus season is now upon us (Covid, Flu, RSV, and plain old colds) it’s important to take precautions. If you’re feeling sick, please reschedule your appointment. If you have a cough or have been around someone who is sick, please wear a mask. We have masks in the office for your use as well.
My friend, Dr. Jessica Drummond has written a series of well documented evidence-based blogs about Covid and some strategies to reduce risk which I suggest you check out!

The United States Preventive Services Task Force has just changed their breast cancer screening recommendations to advise starting at 40 for all women instead of 50. Confused? you're not the only one. There is still a difference of opinion on when to start (40 or 45) and how often (every year or every other year) between different guidelines (USPSTF, American Cancer Society, and others). For this reason we recommend a personalized approach based on a discussion with your provider about your personal risk and life philosophy. https://youtu.be/r6olpv75gnM

This 90-second video features the chair of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, Dr. Wanda Nicholson, providing an overview of the Task Force’s 2024 final...

About Center for Advanced Gynecology

_Patient need drives the opening of the first local gynecology practice specializing in minimally invasive surgery, endometriosis, and pelvic pain.

Charlottesville, VA August 13, 2018 The Center for Advanced Gynecology, a member of Privia Medical Group, has officially opened its doors located at 630 Peter Jefferson Parkway and is scheduling new patients.

Founder and Medical Director Dr. Kenneth I. Barron, MD recently left the University of Virginia Medical Center in order to develop a more patient-focused practice specializing in the relief of pelvic pain, fibroids, endometriosis, and painful or heavy periods. He is the only gynecologist in Albemarle County who is fellowship-trained in minimally invasive surgery for non-cancerous conditions and the only local gynecologist with expertise in pelvic pain and surgical management of endometriosis. The office participates with all major medical insurance companies and will be accepting self-referrals as well as physician referrals.

Dr. Barron, a graduate of the University of Virginia, completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Massachusetts in 2009. He later spent two years in Orlando, completing an accredited American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists fellowship with a specific focus in chronic pelvic pain under the nationally recognized pelvic pain expert Georgine Lamvu, MD, MPH; current chairwoman of the International Pelvic Pain Society. Additionally, Dr. Barron pursued a second fellowship in endometriosis surgery at the Center for Endometriosis Care in Atlanta, Georgia under Dr. Ken Sinervo, MD. He has been faculty at Brown University, University of Central Florida, and the University of Virginia.
