A new solstice/Christmas tradition for me “12 wishes.” On eve of the solstice you write a wish on 13 pieces of paper, Each night afterwards you burn one of the e papers. The last wish you open and this will be the one you work on during the new year. I was a bit late to the game (I got distracted by my birthday which coincides with the solstice) and started on Christmas as a way celebrate the 12 days is Christmas. One of my wishes was to form relationships with native or heritage plants. Yesterday my friend gifted me clippings from her heritage begonia. Maybe this is a foreshadow for what is to come in the new year. I’ll find out in seven days.

It has taken me 15years to get to Crabtree Falls. It’s a sweet short hike where you are near the falls almost the entire way. People also talked about an epically delicious Thai restaurant nearby. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to find it.

Cafe Beignet for the win. For me Cafe Beignet served up the perfect pillow of deep fried dough topped with not too much but not too much little powdered sugar.

Spent the afternoon walking the NYC High Line trail. The High Line is a path built on an old elevated train rail. The walk lends itself well to sightseeing, urban repurpose, people watching, and movement.
