What is Metabolic Syndrome and why is it important to understand how it affects some peoples ability to lose weight.
You know what MetS is? You should. Unless you are doing things to avoid this, it is likely you have it. Obesity trends – Adult obesity rose from ~39.8% in 2016 to over 42% in 2023. Sedentary lifestyles post-COVID – Remote work, stress eating, reduced physical activity.
along with Ultra-processed food intake – Now >60% of U.S. calorie consumption. If you any of the above sounds familiar to you keep reading.
Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions—including: 1️⃣elevated blood pressure,
2️⃣high blood sugar,
3️⃣excess abdominal fat, and
4️⃣abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels—that together heighten the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.
The prevalence of this syndrome tends to increase with age, affecting nearly 49% of adults aged 60 and older.
Here's the good news - Lifestyle factors such as obesity, physical inactivity, and poor diet are significant🔑 contributors to the development of metabolic syndrome. Conversely, maintaining a healthy weight, engaging in regular physical activity, and adopting a balanced diet can help prevent or manage the condition.
At IHC we see people with these conditions every day. Some taking PAGES of medications!!
