Stephanie Watson has been recently trained by the *fabulous* organization toLabor as a Professional Birth Doula. She is actively seeking full certification and very excited to start attending and serving laboring women, in and out of the hospital. In the long run she hopes to include art in her practice as a form of support for those mothers who are so inclined to use artistic expression as a tool to work through various aspects of pre/post natal life ! For now..she truly wants to be there for you and will do anything in her power to calmly & wholeheartedly support you and your growing family

Maybe you’re reaching your estimated due date and feel like it’s "time to do something". Or maybe you've gone past your due date with an antsy obstetrician and the threat of artificial induction is looming. If your intention is to have a natural labour and birth, be careful with the use of 'natural'...

Elephants in the wild have midwives who surround them in a circle during their labor, protecting the pregnant mother and swaying along with the laboring elephant. (JTA) — When Rafi Daugherty went to the hospital for the birth of his first child, he posted a sign on the delivery room door. “I am a single transgender man having my first baby,” it read. “I use he/him/his pronouns and will be called ‘Abba’ (Hebrew for father) by the baby. Papa, Dad, Daddy,...

I'm going to make this really easy: if you weren't there for the conception, don't expect to be there for the birth of the baby.

Who else has had a lotus birth? I've done them with all three of my kids. I was looking through some old photos and thought I'd share. I think it's super neat to see the changing of the umbilical cord before it falls off.

It wasn’t that I set out to be an enthusiastic proponent of homebirth. As a matter of fact, I hadn’t thought much about what kind of a birth experience I would like to have until I got pregnant. Somehow when I found out that I was carrying a baby (or what turned out to be two babies in my case), it…

I long to begin the process of becoming a midwife

There is something so sweet, so gentle, so absolutely awe-inspring about a midwife-led, newborn baby well-exam. Typically done well into baby's second hour of life, the exam is so absolutely tender and filled with love, that my heart aches for the beauty of it.   Midwives are not just trained to del…

From 6:30 in the morning yesterday, until this morning around 3AM (when baby arrived).. for the first time since completing doula training with Thérèse Hak-Kuhn (and a big group of lovely ladies) I supported a woman through her labor. All I feel like saying right now is that it was intense, beautiful and extremely satisfying to be there for her. Arrived back home this morning around 5 and happily collapsed into bed :-)
