Virginia PAs were well-represented by our delegates at the 2026 AAPA House of Delegates this past weekend in New Orleans. Their hard work directly affects change to AAPA policies. In addition to her responsibilities, Chief Delegate Kimberly Sapre also served on Reference Committee B. Josh Detrick also dedicated time to serving on the Standing Committee.

VAPA is thrilled to announce that Governor Spanberger signed VAPA’s priority legislation into law a few days ago. HB746 permits PAs who have three years of clinical experience to practice without a practice agreement. On behalf of Virginia’s PAs, thank you to the Governor, our patron Delegate Henson, and all the legislators who supported our legislation.

The PA Compact, which has been working to make it easier for PAs to practice in other states, has just released its fall newsletter. Please check it out here: https://www.pacompact.org/news/

The PA Compact is important because it allows increase access to PA services and streamlines the process of practicing in multiple states. Virginia joined the compact in 2024, which actually led to the activation of the compact. We expect PAs to be able to take advantage of the compact in early 2027.
