Angela C. Guy (Boo Boo), 59, of 1161 Henry Mill Road, Java, Virginia, departed this life Wednesday, July 23, 2025 in SOVAH Health Care Center in Danville, Virginia.

She was born August 10, 1965 in Pittsylvania County. She was the daughter of the late OT and Mable Fitzgerald Guy.

She was a former member of Shockoe Baptist Church and attended Pittsylvania County Public Schools.

Survivors include a son, Ventora L. Guy, of Danville, VA; a daughter, JaMiya R. Guy, of Java, VA; a brother, Corey Guy ( Melanie), of Florida; four sisters, Etta Jones (Jarvis), Renee Guy Johnson (Leon), Rhonda Gale Guy, and Myra Guy (Thomas Whitehead), all of Georgia; two grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, July 28, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. from Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Antonel A. Myler, Sr., Eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.

Mrs. Edith Moore, 94, of Atlantic City, New Jersey departed this life Wednesday, June, 25, 2025 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

She was born March 29, 1931 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Alice Younger. She was married to Harry Moore, who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Charlie, Alphonso, Robert and Curtis Younger.

She was a devoted member of Greater Holy Trinity Baptist Church in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She was a member of the church choir and Usher Board.

She leaves to cherish her memories; four daughters, Deborah Glass (David), Donna Farmer (Brian Simpson), Victoria Moore, and Sandra Moore; four grandchildren, Tanekia Farmer, Rashidah Derry, Kevin Washington and Devin Washington; a great-granddaughter, Mikaylah Derry; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 12:00 noon from Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Antonio Logan, Presiding and Rev. Alfred Younger, Eulogist.

Viewing will be from 11:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service.

Mrs. Esther Logan Thompson, 90, of 106 Ervin Drive, Goldsboro, NC, departed this life June 27, 2025 at her residence.

She was born February 27, 1935 in Pittsylvania County. She was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lois Whitehead Logan. She was married to Raleigh Thompson Jr., who survives.

She was a former member of Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband of the residence, she leaves to cherish her memories four daughters; Jo Ann Tyson of Garner, NC, Valerie Manley of Cary, NC, Carrol Rouse (Michael) of Winterville, NC and Delinda Duckett (Jean Paul) of Triangle, VA; five grandchildren; Tyler Rouse, Garrett Manley, Torrey Rouse, Kameron Manley, and Danielle Tyson; a brother, Johnnie Logan; five sisters, Faye Turner, Maynell Kelly, Elner Guy, Mary Logan and Catherine Stone (Carl); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at 12 Noon from Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop Jasper Beard, Eulogist. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park, Danville, VA.

Mr. Edward West, 67, of 213 Snakepath Rd., Blairs, Virginia, departed this life, Thursday, June 26, 2025 at his residence.

He was born August 11, 1957 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He was the son of the late Hayward Coles and Ernestine West Coleman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Nicole Lipford and brother, Vincent Coles.

He attended Pittsylvania County Public Schools. He was employed by Virginia International Raceway as a maintenance worker.

He leaves to cherish his memories a son; Edward Crider (Ashley) of Gretna, VA; three daughters; Tawanda Younger of Decatur, GA, Chiara West and Page Blackwell both of Danville, VA; six grandchildren; two brothers, Larry West of Capron, VA and Hayward Coles, Jr. of Phil., PA; three sisters, Cynthia Moore (Ronnie) of Waldorf, MD, Dorothy West and Pamela Williams both of Chatham, VA; a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Mr. Randy Anderson, 69, of 1107 Maison Dr., Blairs, Virginia, departed this life, Saturday, June 14, 2025 in SOVAH Health Danville.

He was born November 25, 1955 in Halifax County. He was the son of the late Nat and Sallie Jones Anderson. He was married to Christine Anderson, who survives. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lander and Jerome Anderson.

He was a graduate of Halifax County Public School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

He was a member of Mountain Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He served on the Deacon Board, Past Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher, President of the Scholarship Committee, and Past Treasurer of Pittsylvania County NAACP.

In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two daughters; Rhonda Owens (Norman) of Atlanta, GA and Shonda Anderson of Blairs, VA; four grandchildren; Toni K. Owens, Juwan Owens, Jordan Anderson and Marques Owens; three brothers; Daniel Anderson (Nadine) of Galax, VA, Duncan Anderson of Semora, NC and Ray Anderson (Seletha) of South Carolina; two sisters; Karen Renaud (Steve) of Greensboro, NC and J. Mechell Anderson of Asheville, NC; father and mother -in- law; Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Ewell, three sisters-in- law, uncles, aunts, a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. from Mt. Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Christopher Pritchett, Eulogist. Interment with Military Rites will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Marion T. Tarpley, 89, of 1501 County Road, Chatham, Virginia, departed this life Monday, June 2, 2025 in Guggenheimer Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lynchburg, Virginia.

She was born April 21, 1936 in Pittsylvania County. She was the daughter of the late Ernest L. and Ethel Jones Swanson. She was married to James Lee Tarpley, who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Cornell Sharperson and four brothers, Henry, Claude, Conrad and James Swanson.

She was a member Union Hall Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Choir. She was employed by Pittsylvania County School System.

She leaves to cherish her precious and loving memories two sons; J. Elton Tarpley of Chatham, VA and Eric D. Tarpley of Gulfport, MS; two daughters, Sandra L. Tarpley of Gretna, VA and M. Michelle Tarpley of Jamestown, NC; two grandsons, Terrell Wilson of Chatham, VA and Quincy Wilson of Gretna, VA; a granddaughter, Sharnice Tarpley Nunnally (Mario); two great-granddaughters, Ava and Brooklyn; two sisters, Corlean Hughes and Pearl Swanson both of Danville, VA; two family members on her late husband's side, Rev. William H. Tarpley (Lena) and Emily Tarpley Johnson , (Alan); a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

She was born February 24, 1948 in Pittsylvania County, VA. She was the daughter of the late Eddie and Edna Oakes Giggetts. She was married to James Nibblett who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her three brothers, Alfonzo, Roy and Apostle Willie Giggetts and her two sisters, Lucille Reeves and Patricia Giggetts.

She was educated in the Pittsylvania County Public School System.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories two sons; George Giggetts of Maryland and Michael Giggetts (Monica) of Dale City, VA; two daughters, Valerie Jackson (Richard) of Danville, VA and Eboni Nibblett of Chatham, VA; four sisters, Sarah Whittle, Edna White, Eunice Giggetts all of Chatham, VA and Eula Carter (William) of Danville, VA; a sister-in-law, Nadine Giggetts; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a special grandson, Jamel Giggetts; a special great-granddaughter, Missy Mama; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was born May 30, 1959 in Pittsylvania County. He was the son of the late James H. and Margaret Womack Petty. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Petty.

He was educated in the Pittsylvania County Public Schools.

He leaves to cherish his memories a son, Howard Petty, III of Georgia; a granddaughter, Tiana Petty (T**i); four brothers, Roy Lee of Chatham, VA, Willie (Janice), Steve J. (Wendy) and Andre Petty all of Danville, VA; two sisters, Cynthia and Louise Petty both of the residence; a uncle, Arthur Lee Petty (Sylvia); seven aunts, Sally B. Lewis, Bessie P. Barley, Emma Simms (George), Florence Davis, Roberta Younger-Carden, Betty Womack and Sarah Womack; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was born July 29, 1965 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He was the son the late James W. and Stella Morrison Hood. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Betty Adams and JoAnn Wells.

He attended Pittsylvania County Public Schools and was employed by Cloverdale Lumber Company.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Robertson Hood; two children, Harvey Lee Hood, Jr. and Caedance Blake Hood; four step children, Aisha Chamberlain, Stephanie Chamberlain, Maegan Lewis and Gavin Robertson,three sisters, Helen Smith, Mary Jo McGhee, and Debbie Howard; three brothers, Larry, Sylvester and Waverly Hood; three grandchildren, Ivy, Easton and Weston Lewis; nieces, nephews , other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Howerton Funeral Home, with Elder Christopher Pritchett, Eulogist. Burial will be in Mountain Grove Church Cemetery, South Boston. VA.

He was born June 20, 1957 in Trenton, New Jersey. He is the son of Walter Sr. who survives and the late Shirley Wimbush Barksdale.

He was educated in the New Jersey Public School System. He was employed by Atkinson Trucking Company and Chatham Health and Rehabilitation.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

In addition to his father, he leaves to cherish his memory two brothers; James Grover (Brenda) of Danville, VA and Vernon Barksdale of Greensboro, NC; four sisters, Shirley “Emily” Calloway (David) of Java, VA, Jane Maria Barksdale of Danville, VA, Tracie McCummings and Kyra Colston (Gary) both of Trenton, NJ; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was educated in the Pittsylvania County School System. He was a licensed welder and was employed by Goodyear and Abbott Laboratory for many years.

He was a member of Seventh Day Adventist.
