Mobility = Possibility
Today, on International Wheelchair Day, we’re sharing Kalpana’s story.
Kalpana was traveling home in Nepal when a devastating bus accident changed her life forever. Her husband and 16-month-old daughter were killed, and she was left with a spinal cord injury, unable to walk.
After months of treatment and a long hospital stay, Kalpana was determined to rebuild her life. At the Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre (SIRC) in Sanga, she received the comprehensive care she needed—physical therapy, medical support, and counseling that helped her regain strength, confidence, and independence.
Just two months after completing rehabilitation, Kalpana returned to SIRC as a peer counselor.
Today, she supports others who are newly injured and grieving—offering understanding, encouragement, and proof that life after spinal cord injury can hold hope and possibility.
Last September, Kalpana received a RoughRider wheelchair through CLASP, designed for the rugged terrain of her community—giving her the freedom to travel, work, and stay connected.
On this International Wheelchair Day, Kalpana’s story is a testament to the power of mobility to restore purpose and community.
