That oiling your belly button trend? That’s just a gimmick. Don’t believe the hype, friends. It’s not a real thing.

It’s an early Sunday morning and we’re ready for the first client of the day… she gets a full body warm oil massage, called ‘sarvadeha abhyanga’, with intra-oral buccal work for TMJD, followed by warm herbal oil pulling, called ‘gandush’, and an herbal tea mouth rinse. She’s loving these treatments.

What is this health system you’ve never heard of?

Ayurveda is a thriving, sophisticated, ancient health practice from India—thousands of years old and still widely practiced today. Its foundational principles are rooted in the laws of nature, forming a vast and complete system of knowledge.

It is not intuition; it is a rigorous science.

Ayurveda uses a systematic methodology for practice. At a consultation, we collect data. We look for specific indicators of imbalance—subtle shifts in the body and mind that indicate where your natural rhythm has been disrupted.

Do you experience hunger? Do your joints ache? What time do you wake in the morning? And so many more questions, we ask.

Interpreting this data is a deeply complicated skill that requires extensive training.

To be clear: This is not medicine, and this is not nutrition. If you need a medical provider or a licensed nutritionist—or if you have been recommended to see one—please do so. Ayurveda is not a replacement for those services.

However, if you want a complementary approach to work side-by-side with your medical provider, if you want to use food, herbs, and bodywork (massage practices) as healing mechanisms in your path towards health, Ayurveda is an excellent modality to support your journey toward balance. It’s wise, it’s time-tested over thousands of years, and more and more research can be found today on its efficacy of practice.

Is your “inner fire” turned up too high? 🔥

When Pitta gets out of balance, that signature drive and focus can turn into sharp irritability, mental burnout, and “wired” late nights. If you’re feeling foggy, weepy, or staring at the ceiling at 2 AM, your body is asking you to cool down and slow down.

Ayurveda teaches us that “like increases like.” To find balance, we must invite in the opposite: Coolness, Softness, and Surrender. 🌿

What have you tried to help with brain fog, weeping, and insomnia? Let me know in the comments! 👇

Clients this week are experiencing chronic constipation, eczema, insomnia, a broken wrist. Can Ayurveda help? Yes! Oils taken internally, proper food combining guidelines, nervous system regulation with body treatments, and topical pain relieving oils, all provide balance to various imbalances.

At midlife, we not only experience the symptoms of perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause hormone imbalance. We are whole human beings, with an entire health history.

Ayurveda considers the whole person's experience of health and looks for the root cause (past) and contributing causes (present) that contribute to the current imbalance. When you learn what's contributing, you're empowered to make changes, and sometimes the simplest changes can make a big difference.
