Our surgeons love serving the community! Learn about our pediatric surgeon Dr. Dave Bhattacharya’s passion for preventing firearm injuries.

Dr. S. Dave Bhattacharya is a board-certified pediatric surgeon and the Pediatric Trauma Medical Director at Erlanger Children’s Hospital in Chattanooga, TN. He has performed countless life-saving procedures and has led initiatives to prevent pediatric trauma, including reducing firearm injuries among children.

A proud Tennessean, Dr. Bhattacharya was born and raised in Memphis. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, completed his surgical residency at Duke University, and pursued a pediatric surgery fellowship at Vanderbilt University. He currently serves as an Associate Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. His work has been recognized for advancing both biomedical research and clinical care.

Beyond the operating room, Dr. Bhattacharya is a longtime advocate for firearm safety and is deeply committed to promoting equity, education, and the well-being of children. He lives in Chattanooga with his wife and daughter.

Welcome Dr. Daniel Nelson to USA!

Dr. Nelson specializes in the management of cancers involving the liver, biliary system, pancreas and gastrointestinal tract (digestive system).

Dr. Nelson is board certified through the American Board of Surgery (ABS) in Complex General Surgical Oncology. He received his fellowship training in Surgical Oncology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California. He also received specialized fellowship training in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Cancer Surgery at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Prior to joining USA, Dr. Nelson was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Medical Corps with 14 years of active-duty service. His military career included combat deployments to Afghanistan (2019) and Iraq (2021). His service has been recognized with numerous military awards including three meritorious service medals, a Combat Action Badge, the Army Commendation Medal with Combat Device, and a NATO ISAF Medal.
