When you’re sick, it’s important to get the care you need. But it may be hard to know where to get the right care. Here’s some info to help you get the right care at the right time.

Your primary care provider (P*P) is the person to see for non-emergency care. They can treat things like cold, flu and urinary tract infections. You also see your P*P for checkups and vaccines.

Urgent care centers can also treat non-emergency health conditions. And some centers can do x-rays and stitches, too.

The ER is for emergency care. The ER can treat things that put your life in danger, like:
• Chest pain
• Trouble breathing
• Numbness or loss of movement
• Sudden loss of vision or difficulty speaking
• Fever higher than 100.3 in an infant under three months old

These aren’t all the reasons you could need ER care. But if you go to the ER when it isn’t an emergency, you could wait longer. And you could have to pay more for the care you get.

Need help deciding where to go for care? Call Nurseline at 1-800-262-2873. You can speak with a nurse 24/7 to get help with health questions and deciding where to get care.

When you don’t take care of your teeth, bacteria can build up in your mouth. The bacteria can then travel through your bloodstream and affect your skin.

Some gum diseases can lead to skin problems like acne and eczema. People with gum disease often have more frequent and severe acne breakouts. Not taking care of your teeth can also make your skin more prone to infections and irritations.

You can help prevent these issues and improve your skin’s appearance by taking care of your mouth and teeth. Here are a few tips:

• Brush and floss regularly to reduce bacteria in your mouth.
• Have regular dental cleanings and checkups.
• Don’t use to***co in any form, including vapes.

Winter can mean extreme cold. It can be uncomfortable and dangerous. So it’s important to protect yourself from the cold. The American Red Cross has some tips to help you stay safe this winter.

• Heat your home safely. If you use a space heater, be sure to keep objects at least three feet away from it.

• Find a warm place to stay. If your heat goes out, find a shelter near you.

• Be careful outside. If you have to go outside, wear layers to stay warm. And change clothes if they get wet.

• Protect your pipes. Cold weather can cause your pipes to freeze and burst. Open cabinet doors and let cold water drip from faucets to protect your pipes.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is a condition caused by trauma. It can affect anyone, including children. About 6% of people will experience PTSD in their lifetime.

PTSD can be caused by a single event, like a car crash or death of a loved one. Or it can be caused by ongoing trauma, like domestic abuse. It’s normal to be afraid or anxious when you experience trauma. But PTSD causes symptoms long after the traumatic event.

People experience PTSD differently. Some people may have flashbacks or nightmares. Others may avoid triggers that make them think about their trauma. And some people may have a general sense of fear, memory loss or negative thoughts.

If your emotions are getting in the way of your daily life, talk with your doctor. Even if you don’t have PTSD, your doctor can help you get the mental health care you need. If you do have PTSD, your doctor may recommend therapy, medicine or both.

Dealing with trauma can be hard enough as an adult. But it can be even harder for kids. Knowing the signs of trauma and how to respond can help you support the kids in your life.

• Learn what triggers your child to feel anxious or scared. And work to avoid or reduce those triggers when you can.
• Try to stay calm. Keep your voice even, and don’t yell.
• Let your child know you’re there for them, even if your child isn’t opening up to you right then.
• Help your child understand it’s OK to feel their emotions. Teach them how to explain their feelings. And show them some healthy ways to deal with emotions.
• Be patient with your child. It may take some time for them to start recovering and feel safe.

If your child needs extra mental health support, we can help. Your benefits cover mental health care. Just give us a call at the Customer Service number on the back of your Member ID card. We can help you find care.

It can be easy to forget to take your medicine. But taking them at the right time is important to your health. To stay on track, try taking your medicine at the same time every day. Your doctor can tell you when you should take each drug. Making your medicine part of your daily routine can also help. For example, take your medicine before you brush your teeth or right before bed. You can also try using a pillbox or setting an alarm on your phone to remind you when to take your medicine.
