AIM Center, Inc.

AIM Center, Inc. We are non-medical and non-clinical, however, we work in concert with other professionals to provide comprehensive mental health services.

The AIM Center clubhouse provides psychosocial rehabilitation services to create hope, community and social change to enrich and celebrate the lives of people living with serious mental illness. AIM Center is a nonprofit mental health program offering employment, education, housing, socialization, and wellness opportunities for adults living with serious mental illness. Our focus is recovery! What makes us unique to the region? Utilizing a psychosocial rehabilitation model known as the "Clubhouse program," the AIM Center allows Clubhouse members to develop relationships and create an individual recovery plan, whilst working side by side with other program participants and staff. Since 1989, we have helped over 3,000 adults in the Chattanooga community lead a full and meaningful life, while living with serious mental illness. Each day 75 to 100 participants, called Clubhouse members, come to the AIM Center to engage in recovery activities. By working together with staff and other members, individuals begin to feel needed and accepted, discover their strengths and abilities, and develop relationships based on mutual respect and shared contributions. AIM Center members have equal voices in all facets of the Clubhouse ‘s operations including planning leisure activities, hiring staff, making decisions about policies and procedures, and having input into the long-range planning of the Clubhouse. Services provided outside the Clubhouse model promote community integration, which includes transitional and supported employment, supported education, supported housing, and leisure activities. The program is open to persons with a diagnosed psychiatric disorder who are 18 years of age or older. Membership to AIM Center is without time limits, so individuals may return to AIM Center whenever they need or want additional support.

Employment isn’t a reward for mental health recovery. For many, it’s a core part of it. Among AIM Center members working toward employment goals, more than 50% were employed in 2025, and even more are eager to find meaningful, competitive work.

Community-based mental health recovery offers many benefits, including the chance to learn from and be inspired by peers. Sharing successes across the Clubhouse and beyond matters, because seeing a peer achieve a goal helps others believe they can too. Larry is one of those peers. He’s been an AIM Center member since 2018 and currently works as a Floor Tech at Erlanger Hospital, where he sanitizes and prepares the hospital environment to create a safe and welcoming space for all who come through.

“Work made me more responsible, accountable, and aware. AIM Center supported me to be more accountable. They believed in me. The people at work, it’s like one big family over there. They treat me like family.”

In honor of Black History Month, AIM Center is celebrating the voices, experiences, and stories within our own community. 🧡

Black history is powerful, personal, and meaningful in so many different ways. This month, we are inviting members of our community to share what Black History Month means to them. For some, that may look like reflecting on lived experiences. For others, it may mean highlighting influential figures they admire or sharing important Black history right here in Chattanooga that deserves to be remembered and celebrated.

At AIM Center, we believe that when people feel comfortable sharing their stories and perspectives, it helps build a stronger, more connected, and supportive community where recovery and wellness are possible for everyone. Throughout February, we will be sharing reflections, stories, and perspectives from voices within our Clubhouse community as we celebrate Black history together.

When we call ourselves a Clubhouse, what does that really mean? 🤔

At AIM Center, a Clubhouse is more than a place. It is a community. We are part of the evidence-based Clubhouse Model, a psychosocial rehabilitation approach that supports people living with serious mental illness by focusing on connection, purpose, and opportunity. This model recognizes that recovery is strengthened through social relationships, meaningful work, education, and community involvement.

Clubhouses are intentionally designed to be restorative environments where individuals can rebuild their lives alongside people who believe recovery is possible for everyone. Through membership at AIM Center, individuals gain opportunities to develop friendships, explore employment and education, access resources, and actively participate in a supportive, working community.

The Clubhouse Model began in 1944 with Fountain House in New York City and has grown into a global movement with more than 370 Clubhouses worldwide! Since 1989, AIM Center has proudly brought this evidence-based model to Chattanooga, creating a place where people can find belonging, build skills, and pursue recovery on their own terms. 🧡

Before we get too caught up in 2026, we want to take a moment to reflect on what a truly transformative year 2025 was for AIM Center.

For decades, we have supported individuals in their mental health recovery and helped them work toward their personal goals. Since opening our doors in 1989, we have experienced countless meaningful milestones. This past year, we reached more people in our community than ever before. We are proud to recognize these accomplishments and look ahead with continued commitment and momentum.

Thank you to our incredible members, staff, partners, friends, and everyone who helped make these accomplishments possible. We’re excited for the even greater work already underway in 2026 and beyond!

Yummy day at the Clubhouse today! 😋

Meisha was our Chef of the Day today and whipped up some tasty BBQ Chicken Baked Potatoes. She loves taking on the Chef of the Day in the Wellness Unit and is always helpful around the Clubhouse, jumping in wherever she’s needed and keeping things fun!

Did you know our Clubhouse has a fitness center? 💪

Mental health recovery involves whole-person wellness, and that includes moving our bodies and working toward fitness goals at our own pace. This multi-use space serves many of our members every day, whether they are using the workout equipment and weights or joining Zumba and dance classes led by fellow members.

Located in our Wellness Unit, this space supports both physical and mental well-being by helping us build confidence, relieve stress, and stay active together. It is also a place where movement meets community, reminding us that recovery can be empowering, social, and even fun!

George has been coming to the Clubhouse for quite a while, long enough to remember our original building on McCallie Ave! 🏡

If someone has been part of the Clubhouse for that long, it’s clear it continues to be a meaningful resource. Recently, we sat down with George to learn more about him and what the Clubhouse means to him.

George enjoys coming to the Clubhouse for the routine and support it provides. You can often find him on the computer in the Maker’s Space. Outside of the Clubhouse, he’s really into anime, Japanese RPGs, Legend of Heroes, and other G123 games. Overall, he’s a big fan of video games and anime.

During the work-ordered day, George’s favorite way to help out is by giving tours to new members as well as community partners and organizations. Having been a member for so long, he brings valuable insight and perspective to AIM Center, which goes a long way in helping others feel welcome and informed.

One thing George wants people to understand is that mental health is still heavily stigmatized, and people are often treated differently once others learn they struggle with their mental health.

This serves as an important reminder that while we’ve come a long way in conversations around mental health, there is still so much work to be done. Advocacy, education, and creating space for voices to be heard are at the heart of our mission, and stories like George’s remind us why that work matters. 🧡
