The summer heat is here, which means summer is in full swing! Here are some helpful reminders!

1. Hydration is KEY! Encourage lots of fluids, especially if spending time outside.

2. The bugs are back 😒 You can use Benadryl (6 months and older) to relieve the itching, as well as itch creams and sprays found over the counter. Tick bites can be tricky. We suggest tick checks every night behind ears, hair, armpits, and groin. If you find an embedded tick remove it and write down the date. If a fever or rash develops in the next 2 weeks you need to be seen so we can screen for tick related diseases.

3. Always wear helmets when on bikes, scooters, and just about anything with wheels 😉

4. Sunscreen should be reapplied every 90-120 minutes. Also make sure you are checking those expiration dates! Last summers stash is unfortunately not going to be effective this summer 👎🏼

5. With heat comes insanely hot surfaces! Be cautious of asphalt, sand, metals, playground equipment, and seats in the car! Keeping windows cracked in the car will help some, but if you have a chance to start your car early, we would recommend that. Portable fans are also a great option, no matter the age. I have one in my purse year round 😅🤣

6. Water safety is crucial! Be aware of your surroundings. Talk to you kiddos about water safety. Designate one person to supervise when kiddos are in the water. Brush up on basic life saving skills. Call 911 immediately if there is an emergency ‼️
