🤔 Sneezing, itching, coughing at home? Just one question:
When’s the last time you changed your home’s air filter?

Yeah… thought so.

🔍 How often should you change your home’s air filter?

- For basic 1-inch “budget” filters, you should inspect and likely replace every 30 days or less.
- For better quality pleated filters, many manufacturers recommend every 90 days (3 months) under normal conditions.

- But if you have:

• pets or lots of pet dander

• someone in the home with allergies or asthma

• heavy usage of the heating/cooling system

…then you may need to swap filters even more often.


🌿 Why is this so important for allergy & asthma sufferers?

- A dirty filter restricts airflow, making your HVAC system work harder and circulate more dust, pollen, mold spores and dander in your home.

- When allergen-laden air is recirculating, it can worsen symptoms like sneezing, congestion, coughing, and trigger asthma.

- Good filtration + timely replacement means better indoor air quality, fewer triggers, and potentially fewer flare-ups.

👍 What you can do this week:

1. Locate your air filter (often behind the return vent or in the furnace/air handler cabinet).

2. Hold the filter up to a light: if you can’t see light through it, it’s clogged and needs changing.

3. Set a calendar reminder to inspect every 1-3 months (or more often if your home has higher risk factors).

4. If you have pets, allergies, asthma or live in an area with high outdoor pollen (hello Chattanooga!), consider upgrading to a higher-quality pleated filter and shorten your change interval.
