It's that time of year again: Founders Day at Orange Grove! This year, we have four Persons of the Year we'd like you to meet, if you don't ! Congratulations to Charles Hudson, Emma Davenport, Jolene Hutson, and Emeli Escalante, our Persons of the Year!
Each of our Persons of the Year are connected to a different part of the Orange Grove community, and together they reflect the many ways our programs, people, and partnerships work hand in hand.
Emma graduated in 2020 and transitioned to Adult Services where she continues to learn 5 days a week. Emma’s father, Gordon, says, “Orange Grove has become like an extended member of the family. It means something to us to see her staff every morning, knowing we can trust and rely on them.”
Emeli was referred to the school program by Hamilton County. Her family says the connection was immediate: “Since attending Orange Grove School for the last three months, Emeli has been expressing herself and verbalizing significantly more. Her communication skills have greatly improved, and we’ve noticed a huge change in her,” her father, Carlos, remarks.
Charles has connections all over the City thanks to his job in recycling. Employment Services aligns each person’s interests and strengths with the right job fit. Charles has been working in recycling for two years, and loves his job. His favorite part is riding in the recycling truck and talking with OGC staff member Ernest.
Jolene came to Orange Grove in 1978. Now retired, Jolene enjoys shopping, going out for a burger, and spending time with her friends. Most evenings, you can find her in the living room with her roommates. “I feel a whole lot better when I can see my friends,” she says.
At Orange Grove, every connection matters. From a student’s newfound confidence to an adult’s first job, from lifelong friendships to trusted relationships with staff, these moments happen because our community believes in the power of connection. Our Persons of the Year exemplify Orange Grove’s mission to recognize, support, and celebrate the unique qualities of every individual.
