Meg, our incredible certified Companion Animal End of Life Doula, has shared some tips to help remember those that have been lost but never forgotten.
❄Hang up that stocking! Continue traditions that you celebrated together. Write your pet a letter or a special message and put that in the stocking.
❄Decorations – There are so many wonderful holiday items and frames that you can customize for your pet. Customized Christmas tree ornaments are easy to come by and there are some really cute ones out there. I purchased a Christmas tree topper that was a picture frame, and put a photo of my sweet girl in it. Even just adding your pet’s collar might add a little sparkle to your Christmas tree.
❄Volunteering – Spreading joy and helping others is a beautiful way to honor your companion. You can volunteer your time to pets in need at your local shelter or even consider fostering a pet for the holidays.
❄Donations – In addition to volunteering your time, you can also make monetary charity donations in your pet’s name, or you can even go shopping for items that your pet would have loved, and then donate these items to animals in need.
❄Light candles, share stories, and hold happy memories close to your heart. Incorporating your pet into holiday blessings and sharing stories with your loved ones helps keep them present in the moment with us and reminds us of the beautiful bond we share, and the happy memories we made.
