At The Chattanooga Heart Institute, freedom means more than fireworks and parades. It’s the ability to walk, breathe, and recover. It’s every hand held after surgery, every step taken after rehab, every heartbeat that keeps a family whole.

Today, we’re grateful for the freedoms we enjoy as a nation and the privilege we have to protect the health and dignity of our community every day.

From all of us at The Chattanooga Heart Institute, Happy Independence Day 🇺🇸

Yesterday, Dr. Sam Jones and Dr. John Craig led an outstanding educational session for physicians, nurse practitioners, and surgical staff at The Chattanooga Heart Institute. The hands-on training allowed participants to dissect pig hearts and explore anatomy from multiple perspectives.

Pig hearts closely resemble human hearts in both structure and function, making them ideal for practicing surgical techniques. This approach provides a valuable, ethical, and cost-effective way to enhance clinical skills and deepen anatomical understanding.

Every voice. Every life. Every choice.
This Minority Health Month, we’re raising awareness about the critical need for organ and tissue donors—especially within Black communities.

• Nearly 100,000 people are waiting for a life-saving transplant in the U.S.—over 3,000 of them are right here in Tennessee.

• In TN, 45% of those waiting are Black, yet only 9% of registered donors are.

• Matching donors within the same ethnic background improves transplant success.

You have the power to save a life.

300 WATCHMAN procedures and counting!

The Chattanooga Heart Institute is proud to celebrate its 300th successful WATCHMAN Implant — a major step forward in helping people with AFib reduce their risk of stroke without the long-term use of blood thinners.

In clinical trials, 96% of patients were able to stop their blood thinners just 45 days after the procedure.

If you have non-valvular atrial fibrillation, you know the risks — not just of stroke, but also the complications that come with taking blood thinners for life. That’s where the WATCHMAN Implant comes in. It’s a safe, one-time, minimally invasive procedure designed to give you peace of mind and freedom from the bleeding risks tied to blood thinners.

To our team and every patient who’s trusted us on this journey: thank you. Here’s to 300 procedures — and the many lives changed because of them.

A First in the Region: Revolutionary AFib Treatment at The Chattanooga Heart Institute

The Chattanooga Heart Institute and CHI Memorial are leading the way as the first in the region to perform Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA), a groundbreaking new procedure for atrial fibrillation (AFib). Dr. Kelly Richardson and Dr. Samuel Jones successfully performed the first case using the FDA-approved FARAPULSE Pulsed Field Ablation System.

This cutting-edge technology represents a major advancement in AFib treatment, offering a safer and more efficient alternative to traditional ablation methods. By using high-amplitude pulsed electric fields instead of heat or freezing, PFA significantly reduces the risk of complications and shortens procedure times—leading to better outcomes for patients.

We’re proud to bring this life-changing innovation to our community and continue our commitment to advancing heart care.
