Congratulations to Erlanger VP of Pharmacy Services Julia Friedman, who won the 2026 Shelby Rhinehart Public Service Award!

Presented by the Tennessee Pharmacists Association, this award honors individuals who exemplify unwavering dedication to advancing pharmacy practice and public health through advocacy and service.

Friedman was praised for her integrity, her persistence in advocacy at the state level, and her commitment to service-oriented leadership at Erlanger. We're proud to have such a stellar leader on our team!

What happens when new graduate nurses and future nurse practitioners train together? Confidence grows. Communication sharpens. Patient care improves.

Erlanger Nurse Residency recently partnered with the UTC College of Nursing DNP program for a collaborative simulation experience at the Erlanger Simulation Center.

From ED to OR to ICU, participants practiced real-time communication, delegation, and escalation in a safe learning environment.

We are proud to collaborate with UTC to build a workforce prepared not only with clinical expertise but also with communication skills that elevate patient care across our system.

VolunTEEN season is here! 😎 😎 😎

Our six-week VolunTEEN Program gives motivated high school students (ages 15–18) hands-on experience in both clinical and non-clinical areas in one of the region's most dynamic healthcare environments. For many participants, the program confirms their passion for pursuing a career in medicine.

We wish Liz a restful, joyful retirement!

Liz Appling has been a cornerstone at Erlanger for more than 30 years, and as our Senior Director & Diversity Officer, has championed many initiatives that have improved how we care for our patients and support our workforce.

A few of her accomplishments:
✨ Expanded our Language Services program to accommodate 200 languages through on-site interpreters, video remote interpreting, and language phones
✨ Led groundbreaking Supplier Diversity efforts, ensuring that over 23% of contractors for the Erlanger East expansion were minority, women, and veteran-owned businesses
✨ Cultivated workplace diversity through mentorship programs, including coordinating the THA Internship Program for Minority Students since 2007 and launching the Diversity TEEN Internship Program

A perfect ending to American Heart Month!

Erlanger leaders attended American Heart Association - Tennessee's Chattanooga Heart Ball. The ball helps raise funds to improve heart health locally, including expanding CPR education and access to nutrient-dense foods in lower income areas.

Erlanger cardiologist Dr. Harish Manyam and Erlanger CEO Jim Coleman serve as president and member, respectively, of the AHA Chattanooga Board of Directors.
