I remember when my paternal grandmother passed, I wanted to do her makeup myself. I had never really seen my grandmother wear makeup, but I wanted her to look beautiful and honored. My cousin and I went to pick out her dress, and I even purchased her a wig.
I walked into that cold room with my makeup brushes ready to work. And when I tell y’all… my grandmother was absolutely stunning.
But what I wish we had was a beautiful picture for her obituary. So many times in this work, families call us and all they have are candid photos, pictures on a field trip, playing games, or random snapshots. Rarely do they have a portrait that truly captures the dignity, beauty, and essence of their loved one.
Recently, I met a great guy named Jesse who is a photographer. I shared with him about Rose of Sharon’s Senior Villa, and together we came up with the idea of Picture Day. He came by the facility, scoped out the layout, and already has a vision and plan.
And let me tell you… I want to make this a BIG deal.
I want to get local salons and volunteers involved to pamper our residents. I want churches and community groups to sponsor a resident with a beautiful outfit for their photoshoot. I want our men sharp and dapper. I want our women glowing and elegant. I want them to look in the mirror and smile so big they barely recognize themselves.
More than pictures, this is about dignity.
This is about legacy.
This is about giving families something timeless to hold onto.
At Rose of Sharon’s Senior Villa, we care for the whole person… and this is one more way we can show them they are seen, valued, and celebrated. ✨
