It’s National Hard Candy Day—and a good reminder that what we snack on can impact more than just our sweet tooth.
Too much sugar over time can increase the risk of:
🍬 Diabetes
🍬 Nerve damage
🍬 Vascular disease and non-healing wounds
Enjoy a piece (or two 😉), but remember:
✅ Know your numbers (blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol)
✅ Stay active
✅ Pay attention to Leg pain, color changes, or sores that don’t heal
If your legs are sending you signals, our team is here to help keep life flowing.

An aneurysm is a “bulge” in a blood vessel—often in the main artery in your belly (aorta). Many people don’t know they have one until it’s found on a scan or causes an emergency.

You may be at higher risk if you:
• Are 65 or older and have ever smoked
• Have a close family member with an aneurysm

At VIC, we can monitor aneurysms and, when needed, repair them—often through minimally invasive procedures. Talk to your provider about whether aneurysm screening is right for you.

If your legs feel heavy, achy, swollen, or tired, it may be more than just long days on your feet.

Chronic venous insufficiency happens when the veins in your legs struggle to move blood back to your heart. Over time, that pressure can lead to swelling, skin changes, varicose veins, and ongoing discomfort.

The good news?

This condition is treatable, and early care can help prevent symptoms from getting worse.

If this sounds familiar, reach out to the Vascular Institute of Chattanooga to schedule a consultation and learn your options.

Did you know that narrowing in the neck arteries (carotid arteries) can lead to stroke—sometimes without any symptoms at all?
Warning signs can include:
⚠ Sudden weakness on one side of the body
⚠ Trouble speaking or understanding words
⚠ Sudden vision changes

At VIC, we can check your carotid arteries with painless ultrasound and, when needed, offer procedures to help reduce stroke risk.
If you’ve had a TIA (“mini-stroke”) or are considered high risk, ask your provider if a carotid evaluation is right for you.

Sudden leg swelling and pain shouldn’t be ignored.

A deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot that can form in the deep veins of the leg. When caught early, it can be treated.

If you’re experiencing these symptoms or have concerns, reach out to the Vascular Institute of Chattanooga to schedule an evaluation.

Ladies, this one is for you. 💚
If you’ve been told “everything looks normal,” but you still have:
• Chronic pelvic or lower back pain
• Left leg swelling or heaviness
• Varicose veins in your thighs, pelvis, or intimate areas there might be a vascular reason.

Conditions like pelvic congestion syndrome and May-Thurner syndrome affect the veins and can cause real, daily pain. At VIC, we take these symptoms seriously and offer specialized testing and treatment options to help you get answers—and relief.

Traveling this holiday season? ✈️🚗
Long periods of sitting can increase your risk of blood clots in the legs (DVT), especially if you have:
• A history of clots
• Recent surgery or hospitalization
• Cancer or certain medications
Protect your circulation:
✅ Stand up and walk every 1–2 hours
✅ Flex and point your feet while seated
✅ Drink plenty of water
If you notice sudden swelling, pain, redness, or warmth in one leg, don’t ignore it. Call your doctor or seek care. VIC’s venous program is here to evaluate and treat suspected clots.

Varicose veins are more than a cosmetic concern.

They can be a sign of underlying vein disease that affects your daily comfort and long term health.

At VIC, we look beyond the surface to find the real cause and real relief.

Do your legs feel:
🦵 Heavy by the end of the day
🦵 Swollen around your ankles
🦵 Achy or throbbing when you stand
And do you see bulging, twisted varicose veins?
This may be chronic venous insufficiency (CVI)—a condition where the veins in your legs don’t move blood back to your heart the way they should.
The good news? Many treatments are minimally invasive and done in the office. At VIC, we can create a venous treatment plan to help you feel lighter on your feet again.
