Changing Lives.®
Siskin Hospital is committed to helping patients regain their highest quality of life after a traumatic injury or illness through inpatient and outpatient physical rehabilitation. The people of Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation understand how a traumatic accident or illness can temporarily put someone on the sidelines. They also understand just as fully that patients don't have to stay there. Throughout the years, the staff has been privileged to look into the eyes of countless patients and watch helplessness turn into triumph, defeat into success, and the fear of "I can't" turn into the spirit of "I CAN!"

Visit www.SiskinRehab.org for stories of triumph over tragedy in the "Because of Siskin Hospital, I CAN!" campaign.

What began as a minor Jet Ski accident left 13-year-old Jada Defoor with a compressed spinal cord, requiring emergency spinal fusion surgery.

Despite years of rehabilitation, her pain worsened. She began falling frequently and eventually couldn’t lift her arms. Imaging showed the vertebrae around her fusion were damaging her spinal cord, leading to a second, more extensive surgery.

This time, doctors recommended inpatient rehabilitation at Siskin Hospital—a turning point in Jada’s journey. Though warned she might never walk normally or run again, her determination combined with compassionate care led to remarkable progress in her gait and quality of life.

Now a recent high school graduate, Jada is heading to the mission field—a lifelong dream made possible by the care she received at Siskin Hospital. ✈️ 🚶‍♀️

The older we get, the tougher it can be to "bounce back" after an injury or illness.

Kyle Binkley, PT, DPT, our director of outpatient therapy and a geriatric clinical specialist, shared his preventative tips with Chattanooga Times Free Press's EDGE magazine, on how you can live your life to the fullest. Check them out below ⬇️

Nearly three years after having both legs amputated, Donald was ready to get back up on his own (artificial) two feet! While in our inpatient facility and subacute rehabilitation facility, he built up strength, worked on balance, and began taking his first steps with prosthetics.

Now, as he transitions to outpatient therapy, Donald is determined to keep moving forward, and we know it won’t be long before he’s walking with confidence. 💪👏

After rupturing both patellar tendons on vacation, it was only right for Jonathan Cantrell to go home in style 🕶

Early in his family’s trip to Italy, Jonathan took a wrong step, heard a snap, and realized his knee wasn’t happy. Determined not to let it ruin the adventure, he toured the streets of Italy on crutches. But fate wasn’t done—before he even made it home from the airport, his other knee gave out. Surgery was inevitable.

After a double tendon repair, Jonathan came to Siskin Hospital to rebuild strength in both knees and regain his confidence before heading home.

He’s not quite back to his busy life as a local business owner yet, but now he’s got the tools (and the swagger) for success! We know he'll be back to his dancing self in no time! 🕺

We are deeply saddened to share that long-time Siskin Hospital associate Ms. Betty Penley passed yesterday morning.

Betty retired in 2024 after 30 years of dedicated service to Siskin Hospital, where she touched the lives of countless patients and colleagues. Siskin Hospital was a family affair for Betty as she worked alongside two of her daughters, Karen and Tracy, for many years.

Her kindness, commitment, and warm spirit left a lasting mark on our organization. She will be missed. 💙
