Garrett Family Funeral Home

Garrett Family Funeral Home The roots of Garrett Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service reach back to Oklahoma Statehood. His grandparents, J.D.

It is the oldest funeral home in McIntosh County, evolving as part of Koch and Thompson Hardware and Undertakers on Gentry Ave in 1908. The Smith family purchased the funeral home in 1954 and they continued to serve the families of McIntosh County until 2006 when John and Kim Garrett purchased the business. John's family heritage in Checotah dates back over 60 years when his great-grandparents, E.E. and Ethyl Garrett, who were hard working farmers settled in Checotah. and Mae (Branch) Garrett and his parents Joe and Anne Garrett were also from Checotah. Today many of his relatives are business owners and are still working and living in the Checotah community. John's funeral service career started in the very early 80's in Muskogee. John has been a licensed Funeral Director and Professional Embalmer since 1985. Kim is a Registered Nurse and now works with John in the daily operations of Garrett Family Funeral Home. They have been married for over 20 years and have two children, Hillary and Seth. John serves as President of the Checotah Lions Club, Vice-President of the Checotah Optimist Club, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Board Member of the Checotah Main Street, a Gideon with Gideon's International, Vice-Chairman of Crime Stoppers of McIntosh County, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Checotah. We offer many options for funeral services and cremations, and believe that NO funeral should be the same. Our goal is to arrange the funeral service that reflects the life of the person that you have lost. We believe that pre-planning and pre-paying for your funeral service is nothing but an act of love. We specialize in pre-arranging and offer many ways of pre-paying.
