Meet our June therapist SPOTLIGHT - Leah Blum, SLP! Leah has been working as a Speech-Language Pathologist since earning her Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from the University at Buffalo in 1994. Over the years, she has worked in a variety of settings, including agencies, school districts, and private practice. While she has worked with children from birth through age 21, the majority of her caseload has always focused on early intervention and preschool-aged children. Her practice became more specialized in treating children with motor speech disorders after her older son was diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech in 2001 at the age of four. His diagnosis changed the course of her career. "That diagnosis led me to pursue training in the PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) approach", Leah said, "Not only to help him but also to support other children in Western New York. At that time, PROMPT was virtually unknown in our area. I love my work, and it has been incredibly rewarding to use PROMPT to help hundreds of children find their voices and learn to communicate." Outside of work, Leah serves on the Board of Trustees at Temple Beth Tzedek and as co-chair the Youth and Education Committee. She also enjoys exercising, cooking, and spending time with my family. Leah says, "My son Aaron, now an adult, has become very involved in the Apraxia community in WNY. This September will be his second year serving on the planning team for the WNY Apraxia Walk, taking place on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Cheektowaga Town Park. He’ll also be participating this July as a panelist at the Apraxia Kids National Convention, representing adults with Apraxia, and is proud to serve as a National Ambassador for the Apraxia Kids Association." We are so happy to have you working with our families and kiddos at H&S of WNY Leah!
