Exercise is shown to be one of the most important things you can do for your brain. You may wonder how this is true. Exercise improves blood flow throughout your entire body, including your brain. A healthy blood flow accomplishes 2 things.
-
1. The blood brings vitally healthy glucose, oxygen and nutrients to the brain
2. The blood flushes brain waste like amyloid-beta proteins out (this protein is suggested as a factor in the development of Alzheimer's disease)
-
Get up and get active everyone. Fall and winter is the perfect time to work on that summer body you have always wanted. A healthy body means a healthy brain.

With the Fourth of July barbecues and parties right around the corner, we wanted to give you some simple strategies to stay on top of your health this year!

1. Drink a glass of water before eating

Often, we think we are hungry, when we are thirsty. Start off with a glass of water or seltzer to stay hydrated. Also, if we drink more water, we are less likely to guzzle soda.

2. Check out all the food before you fill your plate

When we survey the selections first, we can pick a few healthy choices while also choosing a small portion of our favorite treat food. Taking a treat also makes it easier to skip the high-calorie unhealthy foods we can do without.

3. Choose something green

There are always healthy options at parties. Green veggies are low in calories and high in fiber and antioxidants, which are a great way to fill up. Also if you like guacamole your in luck, because this green option contains heart-healthy unsaturated fat.

4. Try a Veggie Burger

Today, with multiple people on vegetarian diets, many hosts offer veggie burgers. Give it a try! This is free of artery-clogging saturated fat.

5. Go bun-less

This is an amazing way to lower your starch intake. Choosing a fresh salad and topping it with a burger or making a lettuce wrap is a great way to cut down on calories. This will help you save room for that favorite treat that you wont feel guilty about later

Happy Fourth of July!!
