As a coach, I never emphasized the importance of winning to any of my athletes. I encourage my pupils of all ages to be the best version of themselves. Winning can be subjective if we promote it as such. It can mean first place. It can mean third place. It can mean qualifying for the semifinals. It....

David Yi, MD just returned from South Sudan where a group of volunteer physicians and clinical staff from the US performed cataract surgery on over 400 patients over the course of the week. Mission trips help to create good will. Often the patient is blinded by cataracts that have developed because of poor nutrition, the environment and a lack of access to health care. Mission trips also provide the opportunity for surgeons to develop skills in dealing with challenging surgeries.

Samaritan's Purse shared a post on Instagram: "This month, we sent a surgical team to where they performed life-changing surgery on hundreds of patients. You can be a part of helping us restore sight to the blind. Visit our link in bio and find gift #30 to give clear vision to someone in...

Driving in the evening or at night may be an everyday activity, but for some, it can be a challenge. As you get older, it’s common for your night vision to decline.

Driving in the evening or at night may be an everyday activity, but for some, it can be a challenge. As you get older, it’s common for your night vision to decline. Applying eye makeup can affect more than just your eyelashes and eyelids. Frequent use can potentially cause issues with the tear film and the eye itself. In order to keep your eyes healthy while still using eye makeup, follow these tips.

According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, eye makeup is a common source of eye infections. The chemicals in many makeup brands can cause irritations in your eyes, such as eye redness, itchiness, bacterial conjunctivitis, and more. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the produc...

Dr. Kim is back from a mission trip to Mauritania, a trip he makes to improve care to an underserved population. Health care professionals from Boston, Washington Dc, New Jersey, New York and Korea joined the mission.

Over the week the all-volunteer group saw 600+ patients, performed over 100 cataract surgeries, and treated patients, including children, predisposed to blinding glaucoma.

The group was welcomed by the military, community leaders and a local ophthalmologist who cares for patients when the group leaves. A clinic was set up in a military hospital and with translation provided by local university students, the group was ready to see patients.

Dr. Kim: "What I like about mission work is collaborating with volunteers from abroad to make a difference in people's lives. We see mostly elderly women and men and they are very appreciative when their sight is restored."

The mission trips are run by Vision Care Services, an organization that builds good will in vulnerable parts of the world by extending care to underserved patients.
